Those familiar with WCM will know of the search capabilities the Authoring UI brings to the table. It’s a simple tool that can be used to chase down content items that contain keywords or phrases.

While useful, WCM’s search is limited in its application.

WebRadar aims to provide users with rich flexibility and in-depth insight regarding where text occurs across your WCM instance and how it can be updated.

Multiple Libraries and Site Area Selection

In WCM, any text search can be scoped to a single WCM Library, Site or Site Area. For example, you can search for text across the Textbox.io site, however searching across the Ephox site would require a brand new search.

In WebRadar, you can select any number of Libraries, Sites and Site Areas to search across. For example, in a single text search, you could search across both the Textbox.io and Ephox sites.

More Options Around Inclusive and Exclusive Searches

WCM’s text search provides a single text field where you type words. You have the ability to refine the search to treat what’s in the text field as a single phrase or search for each of the individual words (e.g. find content that contains all, or some, of the words in the text field).

WebRadar allows you to specify multiple, specific phrases to search for (e.g. “the quick brown fox” AND “the lazy dog”).

In WebRadar, you can also combine text search queries for more granularity. For example, in a single text search, you can look for content that:

Contains the text “X”.
Does not include the text “Y”.

Imagine that you’re working for a tech publication and reporting on the latest trends. Perhaps all articles about the iPhone 7 that should also mention AirPods. Here, you could look for articles about iPhone 7, that don’t discuss AirPods, and then review that content to ensure AirPods are mentioned in the articles.

In-Context Search Results

When generating a report in WebRadar, if any text search queries were specified (i.e. via the query type “Any Text Field”), for each content item returned in the report, you can click the “Text Search …” link to view where in the content the text occurs. This information helps users better understand which Content items are and are not relevant for their use-case and potentially change their queries to better match their use-case.

Exporting Text-Search Reports

Often, the intended audience of your text search query is more than just you.

Your boss may be very interested in how often we’re creating content featuring the name of our latest product offering. Or various stakeholders may want updates around how often particular authors are updating articles.

With WebRadar, you can take any report and easily export its contents to PDF or CSV format. This way, content stakeholders who don’t interact with Portal can still gain insight into the landscape of your content.

Editing Results

WCM text search helps you identify content items that contain words and phrases of interest. However, once you’ve identified the content items in question, updating these content items can be quite a manual process.

As with all reports in WebRadar, you can take the results from a text search report and move them to the Multi-Edit processor to update your identified content items. Here, you can perform text replacements, among other options.

In another scenario, the marketing team wants to change the tagline for a newly released product. WebRadar can trigger this update with a few simple mouse clicks—helping you maintain your company’s brand image and reputation.
