About GATE 2017
GATE, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, is an entrance exam conducted once in a year for the admissions to various science and technology post-graduate programs in Indian institutions like IITs, Nits, IIITs and other government and private institutions and universities. This exam is to primarily test the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate students in engineering and technology in an all India examination. GATE, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is conducted jointly by the seven IIT (Indian Institute of Technology including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee on behalf of the National Coordination Board-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), and Government of India and Indian Institute of Science.
GATE 2017 Eligibility
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE 2017:
The students who aim to attend their B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch/B.Pharma courses should have their certificates in Post-Diploma /Post B.Sc/4 years after 10+2 / Post B.Sc / Post-Diploma
Certificates from their M.Sc/M.A./MCA, ( Master’s degree) in any branch of Science/ Mathematics / Statistics/Computer applications or equivalent
Students should have at least completed their Integrated M.E. or M.Tech or Dual Degree that is after 10thclass and two years or any diploma course in engineering, technology which is a five year programme.
Candidates should have completed their post B.Sc integrated master’s degree program in engineering and technology with is a four year programme.
Professional society examinations that are equal to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch of Professional Societies, recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AICT that is AMIE by Institution of Engineers-India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers-India
GATE 2017 Application form
The students should register by providing a valid email address and filling Online application form for GATE 2017. They are supposed to choose this carefully to be the one that the candidate checks frequently. Since all the communications from the GATE offices about the exam and the notifications will be sent to this email id only.
On GATE 2017 registration, a confirmation email will be sent to the candidates, with the link with a one time password will be sent. Click this link and the password has to be entered and the required change the password after the first log in.

A high quality image of the candidates photograph confirming the requirements and a good quality image with the signature of the candidate and all the other documents to verify the qualification of the students should be ready. Before submitting, the candidate should verify all the details properly before uploading, since the details once given will not be able to change or in case of any wrong information, the candidate will not be eligible for appearing for the exams. The other procedures and notifications will be sent to the email id and the GATE 2017 admit card will only be available for download in the website and not be sent in post.

GATE 2017 Admit card
The admit card for this exam can be downloaded from the zonal GATE websites from December 2016. For GATE 2017, the admit cards will not be sent by post or email. The candidates are advised to take a print out of the downloaded GATE admit card to the test center along with the original and valid photo identification which cannot be photocopy, scanned copy which is not expired. The details for this ID proof while filling the online application and will not be permitted to take the test if this original and valid photo identification is not presented.
It is important that the specified details for ID during online verification is necessary: driving license, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar UID, College ID, Employee Identification Card, or a Notarized Affidavit with Photo, Signature, Date of Birth and Residential Address.Examinations for all the twenty-two papers will be conducted by an online based test and will be during forenoon and afternoon on alternate weekends.
GATE 2017 exam pattern
In all the papers, there will be a total of 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks out of which 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks which are in general aptitude type. In the papers, some of the questions will carry the codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF and XE in engineering mathematic will carry around 155 of the total mark.
The general aptitude section of GATE 2017 will carry 15% of the total marks while the remaining 70% of the total marks will be dedicated to the subject of the paper. There are two different types of papers, multiple and choice questions that carries one or two marks each and all papers and sections. The other question type includes numerical answer questions one or two marks each in all papers and section. For these questions the answer is a real number to be entered using a virtual keyboard.
GATE 2017 marking Scheme
For each question, the multiple choice questions, the candidate will be given one mark and 1/3 will deduct for a wrong answer. Similarly, two marks will be given for right answers for some questions while 2/3 marks will be deducted for this wrong answers. But for the numerical type questions, general aptitude questions, no negative markings will be given and 15 marks will be allotted for this question. The GA section includes 5 questions carrying one mark (sub‐total 5 marks) and 5 questions carrying 2marks each (sub‐total 10 marks).
GATE 2017 answer key
GATE answer key helps condidates to get expected score in the GATE examination before the official announcement of results. Answer key are released with solution by GATE officials only. Also, some coaching institutes provide exactly correct answer key for GATE examination.
GATE 2017 Result
GATE result will be released March 2017 on official website of GATE. Candidates will be able to check result along with GATE cut off marks and it will let them know if they have qualified GATE or not.
