Could the former five-star big man make his way to Lexington?
With the college basketball coaching carousel in full effect, players all over the country are weighing their options after watching the coach who gave them a chance to play college basketball depart.
This is the case for Nevada’s Jordan Brown, who watched head coach Eric Musselman leave the Wolf Pack to take the head coaching position at Arkansas.
Brown was a 2018 McDonald’s All-American and five-star recruit who chose Nevada over programs such as UCLA, Arizona, Oregon, and California. His highest ranking was 12th overall by Rivals.
However, after not getting much playing time in his first year in Reno and his head coach heading to the SEC, the California native has put his name in the transfer portal.
According to Evan Daniels of 247Sports who spoke to Brown’s father, there is plenty of interest, and the Kentucky Wildcats are among those in on the former All-American.
Though it’s not a given Brown will leave Nevada, his father says schools such as Arizona, Cal, Oregon, Baylor, Miami, Pitt, Ohio State, and his father’s alma mater, Louisiana-Lafayette, have reached out.
He also noted that Kentucky was ”there from the beginning” and that Arizona Wildcats head coach Sean Miller was showing significant interest.
According to Brown’s father, there have been discussions about visits to both Kentucky and Arizona, but nothing is set in stone just yet.
With Brown just having finished his freshman season, he’d have to sit out the entire 2019-20 season if he were to transfer. However, he would still have three years of eligibility if he were to transfer.
Thus, this would give Kentucky a piece to work with for the 2020-21 season and potentially beyond.
It seems to be very unclear if Kentucky is a leader or even 100% on board on bringing Brown in, but it’s a potentially significant development for the future of the program.
