Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI) is the national charity for people with Down syndrome and their families in Ireland, supporting over 3,500 members across 26 branches nationwide. Down Syndrome Ireland is dedicated to being Ireland’s primary source of expertise, support and information to people with Down syndrome, their families and the professional community. We are working to achieve an optimal quality of life for people with Down syndrome, as equally valued, independent citizens.

DSI is currently recruiting for a Digital Communications Officer to join its small team working in the organisation’s National Office in Dublin. The successful candidate will be an expert in writing, editing and proofing content for use on our website, on social media, in newsletters and other publications. They will also assist the Fundraising Team with effective communication around fundraising events and campaigns.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• To add value to Down Syndrome Ireland’s communications and fundraising functions through the proactive and efficient use of digital marketing tools

• Develop and implement a social media and digital marketing plan to promote the work of DSI and its fundraising events

• Write and edit website copy and source, write and edit content for social media, newsletters and other publications

• Review and update Down Syndrome Ireland’s social media policy

• Help maximise PR opportunities around agreed stories and campaigns

• To work closely with the Head of Fundraising to maximise income from online channels including recruitment of new supporters and development of relationships with existing supporters

• Any other duties as designated by the Head of Communications

Person Specification / Required Skills and Knowledge:

• Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant area

• Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience in a communications or digital marketing role

• Proven track record in running strong social media and digital marketing campaigns

• Experience in SEO, Google Analytics, Google Adwords, Facebook Ads and LinkedIn advertising channels

• Experience using WordPress CMS platform

• Strong networking capabilities, ability to build and maintain key relationships

• Proven English copywriting and editing skills

• Strong planning, research, organisational and time management skills

• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team, with an open and positive attitude

• Flexibility in work arrangements – the role involves occasional out of hours and weekend work

• An understanding and empathy for the mission and work of Down Syndrome Ireland

Desirable

• Hold a digital marketing qualification

• Knowledge and experience of Ireland’s charity sector

• Basic experience in graphic design and online editing tools highly desirable

Details

• Part-time role subject to standard probationary period of 6 months – role involves 21 hours per week core office-based work and 5 flexible off-site hours per week monitoring communications channels (26 hours per week in total)

• Salary available upon request

• Role to commence November 2016
