Valve released Dota 2 Update 7.00 only one day following the Boston Major. – saying goodbye to years spent with patch 6. DotA was released in 2005 under patch 6.xx and then ushered into Dota 2 in 2011 with 6.72d as Beta keys were provided shortly before The International. Through the next five years, patches and updates morphed and adapted game-play while growing in popularity and size. The significant changes brought forward with Update 7.00 will certainly continue to change the game for players and viewers alike.

Fun Fact: In Feb 2005, Dota Allstars 6.xx series was released to public laying the foundations for the game we have today. #RememberingSix

Valve’s decision to release Dota 2 Update 7.00 is bittersweet. The last patch update to 6.88 brought to the game the long awaited hero Underlord in August, following TI6.

The New Journey, including introduction of the first new hero to be introduced to Dota 2 was revealed at TI6 but not delivered until now.

This New Journey includes introduction of the Monkey King, new HUD and pregame, hero remodels, community authored bots and new game play including re-routed map, hero attribute and spell selections, new Roshan and rune locations as well as rune changes – essentially all aspects of the game.

The new patch will be rolling out tomorrow Monday, December 12th.

Dota 2 Update 7.00 – New HUD

REBUILT IN-GAME INTERFACE

: The hero control console has been reworked to reduce its on-screen footprint and allow space for the new Hero Talent interface and Backpack slots. Information on other selected units now appears in a left-aligned pop-out to let you maintain hero control as you gather intel.

TOP BAR & MINIMAPM

QUICK-READ MINIMAP OPTION: Use the new simplified background option to help parse the minimap more quickly. Scale the minimap to a size of your liking. We’ve also added an indicator of which friendly structure or unit will be targeted before you teleport.

TOP BAR TEAMMATE STATUS: Hold ALT to display health, mana, and buyback status of teammates. You can also target abilities by clicking on an allied hero’s top-bar portrait.

ACCESS SETTINGS IN-GAME: No need to seek the safety of your fountain just to change your controls and options. View and adjust your settings without leaving the map.

HERO CONTROL CONSOLE

ONE-CLICK LEVEL UP: No matter how chaotic the fight, easily upgrade your hero’s abilities with one click.

HERO TALENTS AND BACKPACK: It’s more than just a design change; we’ve added new features as well. Read more about Hero Talents and Backpack slots on the New Gameplay page.

NEW UNIT QUERY PANEL: With the side-aligned unit query, you can gather info on other heroes, units, and buildings without sacrificing any actions on your own hero. A legacy-mode option is available.

MANA COST ON ITEMS: With mana costs displayed directly on item icons in your inventory, you’ll always know how much mana to save for that clutch Force Staff or Eul’s.

CUSTOM HERO INTERFACE: Dynamic HUD elements add flexibility for custom interface designs. Check out Morphling’s new slider display for Agility and Strength Morph gains.

EQUIP LEGACY SKINS: Even with all these changes, you can still equip any favorite HUD skins from your inventory—they’ve been remapped to fit the new layout.

SHOP & COURIER

NEW SHOP VIEW: The shop view has been simplified and tailored to your hero. All suggested item builds have been updated to include each hero’s standard items plus a set of other recommended alternatives.

COMMON ITEMS & GRID VIEW: In addition to hero-specific items, the default shop view also includes a quick-access selection of items regularly purchased by all heroes. For anything else, just click to the traditional grid shop view.

STOCK COUNT: Items with a limited quantity now show available stock on their in-shop display

BUYBACK STATUS INDICATOR: Press ALT to display your buyback status—including gold surplus or deficit—on the Shop Button.

RIGHT-CLICK COURIER OPTIONS: Courier logistics get complicated in the heat of battle. If you interrupt someone’s delivery, or just want to expedite a pickup, use the courier’s right-click menu to send it on the correct path.

COURIER CONTROLS: We’ve adjusted the courier controls and added the ability to upgrade to Flying Courier without opening the shop

Dota 2 Update 7.00 – New PreGame

PICK PHASE

The new selection screen matches the layout of the Heroes gallery, so you can use the common hero filters, type a name to quickly locate a specific hero, or just click Random to let the fates decide.

FAMILIAR FILTERS: You’ll find the same filters available as in the Heroes gallery to easily narrow down heroes by role, type, or specific areas of strength. Not sure what to look for? Try searching by Complexity Rating for a simple indication of the difficulty in executing a hero’s ability mechanics.

HERO HIGHLIGHT: Click on any hero to display their abilities, areas of strength, and a short description of their playstyle. Once you’re satisfied with your choice, lock it in to move to the Strategy Phase.

TEAM COMPOSITION: Each team combination offers different strengths and weaknesses, and effective planning relies on knowing the capabilities of a group of heroes. Use the new Team Composition window to help gauge the cumulative strengths of your selected heroes, and plan accordingly.

HERO SUGGESTIONS: ALT-click a portrait to suggest that hero to your team. Teammates will see a chat notice, and the selected hero portrait will be highlighted for their consideration.

STRATEGY PHASE – 30 SECONDS

Once you’ve locked in a hero, start planning your lanes and ward spots, purchase starting items, change your hero loadout, and more. After everyone has selected a hero, you’ll have thirty seconds of guaranteed strategy time to make final preparations and item purchases while the game finishes loading in the background.

ENHANCED STRATEGY MAP: Draw up your battle plans with the updated strategy map. In addition to clicking your lane preference, use the new options to drag-and-drop enemy hero icons into predicted lanes and signal initial ward placement to your team.

PURCHASE ITEMS: No more scrambling to purchase items and get into position for that pre-horn smoke gank. Now you can purchase your starting items before you even spawn in the fountain. So finish your shopping early and start moving around the map the moment the game loads.

BACKPACK MECHANICS:

Items that are in your backpack are Inactive (cannot be activated or grant passive bonuses)
Items cooldown at only half the rate when they are anywhere except your main inventory.
Cannot put the following items in your backpack: Gem, Rapier, Bloodstone, and Aegis.
Items can always be moved out of backpack with no Inactivity timer when near a shop.

DISASSEMBLING ITEMS:

Disassembling items now tries to fill your inventory or backpack first before dropping to the ground.
Disassembling items auto-locks them from combining with other items. Use right click to unlock.

MAP CHANGES

Just as the Ancients shape the minds of the creatures who worship them, so too do their powers flow through the lanes of the forest, reshaping the lands to reveal new sources of power and lay waste to any notions of safety.
