Improve your domain finding skills.
My daughter is playing Softball again this year, it’ll be her second season. When I look back and contrast her first practice ever to the last game of the season, I could see a marked improvement in her skills and level of confidence. They only practiced once a week, so it’s not like they had these 6 year olds bleeding softball, but you could see individually and as a team they were all better than when they started.
As with most things in life, the more we do them the better we become. The deeper we delve into whatever it is we are doing the more our skills and confidence increase.
Domaining is no different. I’m not a domaining expert, but I’ve found different things that work. I try and take these concepts and skills and develop them. It might not even be a deliberate cognitive thing, but when I break it down I can see different milestones, points along the journey.
When we’re trying to learn something, we take in all kinds of information from many different sources, we try and process all these different concepts and turn them into our own style, one that works the best for us. Often what people don’t do is push these concepts and skills to the max. A lot of times it’s because we get distracted or discouraged. Maybe we haven’t sold anything or we paid a lot of money for some BS name that will never sell, or there’s some new shiny object that steals their attention.
So here’s my challenge to hone one major aspect of domaining. This week work the shit out of a drop list. It doesn’t matter which one or which tool you use. Pick a day where the names are dropping or auctioning several days out. Forget about dates, metrics and all the other distractors. Don’t get bogged down on any names, if you think there’s hint of value or you just like the way it sounds highlight or mark that name. After you’ve gone through the whole list, do it again a different way. Then the next day, do the same list again a different way. On the third day gather the names that you picked, think about why you picked them and why you think they had value.
I think if you do this several times you’ll learn some valuable things. You’ll be able to identify the best ways that you find good names. You’ll learn things about yourself, like what time of day or what setting works the best. What frame of mind were you in? Were you tired or distracted?
Write what you learned down, then do it again and again. Finding good domains is the most basic fundamental of domaining. Learn how to do this first, then worry about everything else.
Lot’s of good names at auction today without any bids.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
