Prairie Island’s two pressurized water reactors generate about 20 percent of the electricity used by Xcel Energy’s customers in the Upper Midwest. The plant is located on a 520-acre site about 40 miles southeast of Minneapolis-St. Paul and about five miles north of Red Wing, Minn. Nearly 800 people are employed full-time at the plant. On June 27, 2011, the NRC renewed for 20 years the plant’s original operating licenses, authorizing the Prairie Island units to continue generating electricity to 2033 and 2034.

Summary

This manager position is responsible for quality and credibility of online schedules and the results of weekly schedule adherence. They are responsible for ensuring coordination and hand-offs between departments. Determines the level of schedule detail based on complexity and significance of the work. Provides oversight for schedule adherence and risk compliance during online execution. Reviews all scopes and schedule change requests for technical accurancy, team readiness to implement and risk impact and approves/disapproves any changes. Able to function as back-up to, Online Scheduling Manager, Outage and Scheduling Manager,Assistant Shift Outage Director positions. Qualified for Emergency Plan positions. Performs Action Requests Evaluations and Corrective Actions.

Essential Responsibilities

- Assess schedule risks and determine at-risk work that will remain in the schedule after T-6, assures manager for at-risk work is named. Tracks at-risk work to completion. Assesses the nuclear safety risk of the schedule. Perform risk assessment and perform initial PRA risk management assessment at week T-6 and final risk assessment at T-1 in accordance with applicable site procedures.

- Approval of work activities. Manages scope, planning, scheduling, execution and critiquing of assigned work weeks. Controls and coordinates emergent work entering the assigned work week, determines priorities and directs FIN team resources to protect scheduled work. Ensure appropriate communications are made to affected work groups and perform PRA as necessary.

- Chairs Schedule Review Meetings. Chairs the T-5 initial schedule review and T-2 final schedule review meetings and assigns and tracks action items as required. Chairs/leads Complex Issues meetings to ensure appropriate planning and preperation is in place for the activities. Removes and assigns owners for at Risk Work Orders.

- Chairs Work Week Critique Meetings. Perform periodic critiques of the scheduling work control process effectiveness. Identifies opportunities to improve and assumes leadership role to implement improvement actions and provides a summary report to site management. Conducts/Chairs Event Response Critiques and provides summaries to Management.

- Chairs the daily production meeting, provides coordination information, and discusses schedule adherence. Chairs/cordinates breakout sessions on operational concerns and plant priorities and ensures owners are named for actions and held accountable.

- Implement work week. Acts as a single point of contact during the work week to help resolve delays with schedule Grade 'A' and Grade 'B' work items. Reviews schedule grades (A-D) and modifies them as appropriate Manages scope, planning, scheduling, execution and critiquing of assigned work weeks.

- Provides schedule logic to the scheduler as necessary, coordinates with affected work groups that schedule logic is correct.

- Validates resources and ensures scheduled work for work groups is properly loaded to maximize the use of available resources.

Qualifications

Required

High school education or equivalent required. 8 years of nuclear work experience required. Management experience desired. Associate's degree from two year college or technical school in Engineering or technical field desired. Bachelor's degree desired. SRO License desired.

Must live within 60 minutes to ensure proper implementation of Emergency Response plan.

A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process (typically consists of an alcohol/drug screen, a criminal history check, a psychological assessment, initial credit and background investigation and periodic credit & criminal history checks).
