The nephew of former Institute and Limavady footballer Colin 'Buddy Nutt' has been running half marathons to raise money for Altnagelvin Support Centre to show his gratitude for the treatment given to his uncle.

Ben Nutt said that his uncle had always been an inspiration to him and he took on the challenges to show his 'love and support'.

Mr Nutt said: "This time last week I had finished the Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon and was resting some achy legs!

"I ran the Cambridge Half Marathon 2017, my first half marathon, to celebrate my Uncle, Colin 'Buddy' Nutt (pictured) who has been diagnosed with cancer.

"A very talented footballer, (an idol for my early footballing ambitions), Colin has always been active and interested in a variety of sports.

"To show my love and support for Colin as he fights cancer, and to thank Macmillan Cancer Support Northern Ireland, for the vital support service they have given, I am raising money for the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre at Altnagelvin.

"Sadly everyday 23 people in Northern Ireland hear the devastating news that they have cancer and 11 people die from the illness.

"Your donations will go towards the continued support of people with cancer in the Western Health and Social Care Trust area and the Republic of Ireland, as well as their families, carers and friends.

"Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest British charities and provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer.  As well as helping with the medical needs of people affected by cancer.

"Macmillan also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have, and campaigns for better cancer care. Macmillan Cancer Support's goal is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer in the UK.

"Without the continued support of generous people, and people doing events, running marathons, climbing mountains, and donating in all the other ways that they can, Macmillan wouldn’t exist.

"No one should face cancer alone!

"Thank you to Cliftonville Football Club for their support with this cause! It is really appreciated!

"Thanks also to the other clubs Colin has played for: Limavady United and Institute and thank you to everyone who has sponsored me.  To date a total of £1,500 has been raised.

"I'm very pleased to say that my Uncle is now recovering after a successful course of treatment and is using the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre at Altnagelvin.

"A very big thank you to Macmillan Cancer Support Northern Ireland for the service they have and continue to provide! You are magnificent!"
