Me and my love outside of The Public House by Evans Brewing Company in Downtown Fullerton
For the first night of my winter break we went to a restaurant in Downtown Fullerton that just opened its’ doors this past October 2016! I was invited in to check out The Public House by Evans Brew Co on Commonwealth in Downtown Fullerton and was excited to see what they had to offer in the restaurant! I have enjoyed Evans Beer at several of the OC Weekly events I attend & even got a funny photo with them back in 2011. See my photo below.

The Bar – The Public House by Evans Brewing Company
The Public House/Evans Brew Co. is located in the heart of Downtown Fullerton and it had a very lively atmosphere going on when we walked up to the establishment. After being seated and mulling over the menus we decided on several different tasty bites that looked good to us as well as a few recommended to us by the awesome manager, Brian.

To start off our meal, we each got a drink. I opted to get a beer cocktail and my husband chose a traditional beer. I had the Dandy Shandy, a mix of Aylesbury Vodka, muddled berries, lemon juice, and Pollen Nation Honey Blonde Beer. I loved the flavor combination of this beverage and it is a different choice than I would normally select, but I just had to have it. My hubby got his classic favorite that he gets everywhere he goes, including our refrigerator, The Chocolate Porter (Nitro) – Porter brewed with THCO cocoa nibs and cold brewed coffee.

To pair with our drinks we started our meal off with the Summer Corn Skillet Hoecake recommended to us by our waitress. This item was a delicious corn cake with peppers and onions, applewood smoked bacon, and honey butter for only $7! I LOVED this corn cake and was excited to save a little bit for the next day to polish off with my breakfast! I definitely recommend this item to start off your meal! To be quite honest, everything I had was amazing at The Public House, but I really loved this small bites plate!

Next we moved on to the Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken Breast that we got with two sides. The two we chose were the Fresh Cut Fries & the Seasonal Salad that was made with spinach, butternut squash, red beets, avocado, manchego, almonds, pickled port onion, and spiced vinaigrette. The chicken was cooked perfectly, moist and juicy and the breading had the perfect crunch. We also thoroughly enjoyed the salad and the fries. I ordered a side of the homemade ranch dressing to go with my fries and I was in heaven!

We ordered a second round of drinks at this point. I got a nice glass of red wine by the Force of Nature which was a red blend! It went perfectly with my entrée I next mention below, the burger! My hubby got the KrHOPen IPA – to try something new because he usually only goes for stouts. This beer was a West coast ipa with a piney and citrusy aroma & he said it went well with the fried chicken.

We also ordered Evan’s Signature Pub Burger. The manager insisted on this one and I already had my eye on it! This burger was a delectable blend of meat, which was blended rib eye and pastrami and it was cooked medium rare to perfection! The burger was decked out with cheddar, creamy coleslaw, dill pickles, caramelized ipa onions, & thousand island and I decided to do the $2 add on of applewood smoked bacon & a fried egg for another $2. This burger was scrumptious and if I had to select one item out of everything we devoured above, this burger is a must visit once again next time. The side dish we selected with the burger was the Charred “Oaklore Brown Ale” Glazed Brussels Sprouts because my hubby loves Brussels sprouts. He loved the char on these sprouts and he added the pickled onion from my salad as a topper and he enjoyed it thoroughly!

Last, but not least, dessert was the Seasonal Cobbler ala mode & it was a Brandenberry flavor. I had never tried Brandenberry before but it was similar to a combination of raspberry and blackberry. It was so good!

While we were eating dinner, we enjoyed 70’s & 90’s tunes from the J-Mann Group that was playing live up on the stage in the back of the restaurant. They had an upbeat sound and we hope to come back and hear them play again next time we dine at The Public House. The musical lineup is always changing.
