If you’re looking for a home-like environment that can fit just about any budget, try looking at short stay apartments.

Available throughout Australia, these kitchen- and laundry-equipped units can be very convenient for families and groups, as well as for anyone travelling on a budget. If you’re on a business trip, the convenience of a downtown location and daily service, plus the usual fitness amenities offered at higher-end accommodations, might mean more to you than a washer and dryer.

Temporary digs like these are used by people for many different reasons: Travelers on extended stays, people relocating to a new place, and homeowners who are in the midst of messy renovations.

For anyone new to Australia or anyone in the midst of a transition there, we’ve gathered a list of 21 resources to start your search for short stay accommodation. These include national booking sites, house sitting options, and more typical and location-specific apartments to consider. There are so many choices available that you should find something that fits your situation, desired location and budget perfectly.

House Sitting

House Carers

If you’re looking to exchange house sitting and/or pet sitting services for a free place to stay, take a look at House Carers’s Australia section. You’ll need to register as a house sitter and be extremely flexible with location, date and lengths of stays. The upside is that you stay in a home free of charge, sometimes with the use of the homeowner’s vehicle.

Aussie House Sitters

With about 1,000 new home sitting ads per month on the site, and many more homeowners connecting directly with sitters instead of listing their homes, registered sitters at Aussie House Sitters can usually find short stay accommodation that fits their schedules and desired locations.

Trusted Housesitters

If you choose the annual membership plan, the cost to join Trusted Housesitters works out to about A$10 a month. The majority of the stays are short term; Sydney, Melbourne and Perth are the top cities for house sitting.
