Madiba Antique Restaurant was one of the first restaurants we ever reviewed. I remember how excited we were (well i was) at finding palmwine in abuja! As a true daughter of the soil, my joy runneth over.

So a lot of folks in Abuja really do not know about this place and it makes me sad because it is quite awesome. Located right across from the Sheraton in the Art and Crafts Village, Madiba is a great place to hang out and just chill with your homies after work or on the weekend and their prices are pretty bomb too.

So the other day, i was craving nkwobi and my friend who was visiting from the UK wanted isiewu so we decided to head to Madiba for dinner. Let me just say that I have had the nkwobi here many times..it is by no means the nkwobi that Mama Nkechi in Enugu, Imo, Anambra makes…but its still quite good. I have never had their isiewu but my friend was adamant about it so I was like okay o.

So i ordered my Goat meat nkwobi (N1500) and my friend ordered the isiewu (N2000), the waiter who was very nice and quite funny told us that the isiewu would be enough for two but i was like naaa I came here for nkwobi son..don”t kill my vibe.  Of course we got 2 bottles of Orijin to wash down our food.

Anyway, it takes about 30 mins for the food to be ready..the isiewu comes first and we dive right in. So I am really wary about isiewu like yes its delicious but its Goat Head! I would hate to bite into a juicy eye..Grossness. Anyway i ate a bit and left the rest for him to devour.

My nkwobi came and I was excited until i actually saw it. I don’t know what happened but it was basically some goats swimming in palm oil. Like a ton of palm oil…I basically ate the meat and left the pool of palm oil. I know nkwobi is made with the thing but this was just a lot..i complained to the waiter who apologized but said that was how it was usually made. Not true but whatever.

This is before I started eating it?..What is this?

After i ate all the meat..

Anyway, If you have never been to Madiba you should go..its a nice setup, the food is good (most of the time), affordable and the service is mostly good albeit slow. Despite this experience, I would still recommend it to folks. Maybe I am just a die-hard customer..palmwine can do that to you.
