West Indies players have been called for negotiations first time by West Indies Cricket Board after they conquered ICC World Twenty20 2016.

West Indies became the first team to win two World T20 crowns after they overpowered England by late dramatic finish. The captain Darren Sammy hit out at board in a post-match press conference and expressed his dissatisfaction towards them. Sammy said that he was very disappointed with the board and he has not heard from them until they won the title.

In response to it, WICB president David Cameron insisted that he would meet every player in the annual review after the IPL and will try to resolve the issue.

The president has earlier denied negotiations with the players and encouraged them to contact the West Indies Player Association president Wavell Hinds. However, the end results were not pleasing as the players boycotted their tour to India in 2004 due to new contract which leads to massive pay cuts.

“Coming up in May this year, the Board will host its annual review (retreat) with the players, WIPA, selectors and the technical team to review player, management and technical plans. We want to see how we can find common ground in ensuring that the best players in the region are available for selection for West Indies teams,” the WI cricket board president stated to media few hours after the team clinched the World T20.

The meeting between players, team management, selectors and boards will be held in June. This is because many of the top players like Chris Gayele, Keiron Pollard, Carlos Brathwaite and Dwayne Bravo will be part of the IPL which takes place during months of April and May.

WICB insists that the players should play regional cricket in order to be available for selection in the team. They cannot be selected after looking at their form in T20 franchise-based tournaments like IPL, PSL etc. WICB admitted about financial rewards players get during these domestic leagues but highlighted the importance of cricket in the region. It also stressed that they will contact ICC in order to protect West Indies Cricket legacy and future.

WICB has also sent thank you note in a media release to all the three teams West Indies Men, West Indies Women and Under-19 who became the champions.
