I've been with Republic for a little over a year now. I LOVED it until about 3 to 4 months ago. The fact that I could go from paying $150 a month for two phones to $20/month for two phones was enough to let me buy my wife a new car and pay almost the same amount in our monthly bills. I had wifi at home, work and class, so it was perfect. A few months ago both my and my wife's phones started to not make calls. The screen would go black for a moment and then return to the contact book. Sometimes the call would go through in 30 seconds, sometimes 3 minutes and sometimes never. This usually always happened during emergencies when one of us wold be lost or in dire need to contact the other person. This is not okay for a cell phone. I realize Republic is different, and I can accept a couple inconveniences for $10/month, but to not be able to make a phone call... that can end in life or death. I gave it a few months, and it's getting worse and worse. Times will go by where I dial a number 10 times, and after 30 minutes all of the calls would go through. I would also constantly drop calls, miss calls, randomly get voice mails even though the call didn't go through... etc. Now with the horrendous price increase disguised as a discount, it's time to leave. It's been fantastic for the first 10 months, but it's getting to be an inconvenience at this point. Sorry Republic. It's cheaper to go to straight talk. I can use my better phone again, I can have unlimited data that works, and, most importantly, I can continue to make phone calls.
