Prisoner & Family Coordinator

12 hours per week

Job Description: The Coalition for Civil Freedoms (CCF) is hiring! We are looking for a bright, dedicated, and mission-oriented individual with a passion for prisoner advocacy and working with directly-impacted people. The support CCF provides to men and women targeted and wrongfully convicted in the so-called “war on terror,” as well as to their family members who must navigate through their trauma as they become lead advocates for their loved ones, is the heartbeat of our organization. Our Prisoner & Family Coordinator, therefore, plays the key role in building and maintaining CCF’s relationship with prisoners and their families, leading campaigns for advocacy and support, and organizing conferences and healing justice initiatives that empower them to tell their stories.

Responsibilities:

Prisoner Support:

– Corresponding with prisoners and addressing their inquiries sent via USPS and Corrlinks (the prisoner email system) including weekly news digest

– Devise a quarterly CCF newsletter for our prisoners to keep them apprised of organizational news, programs, and hopeful legal trends

– Provide program support during the annual Ramadan gift for prisoners drive

– Coordinate the “Write a Prisoner” Program

– Contact new political prisoners (and/or their families) to inform them about the work of CCF and invite them to participate

Family Support:

– Establish a relationship with impacted families to engage them year-round, help respond to their needs and requests, and assist them in finding psychological support or other resources

– Provide program support in planning the annual CCF Family Conference and Regional Conferences

– Assist in planning webinars and educational events featuring impacted families and former prisoners

– Participate in legislative advocacy efforts with family members

CCF Team Support:

– Assist with tasks as needed, such as communications and logistical support, social media content creation, advocacy campaigns, outreach, and website (soliciting prisoners/family blog posts)

Qualifications: Strong communication skills; Works well with a small team; Must be very empathetic and able to work with impacted people; Organized, dependable, and flexible; Self-starter.
