Street Theory Pop Up Gallery
Friday, December 9th 5 p.m. (Cambridge) “STREET THEORY” sets up in Harvard Square this weekend. Starting at 5 p.m. Dec. 9th. Artists 123Klan, Victor “Marka27” Quiñonez, Problak, Imagine, and Percy Fortini-Wright will occupy and transform the soon-to-be-demolished,former, American Express Travel storefront for a genuine street culture artists/general public collaboration. Swedish Yuletide at the Cyclorama
Satuday, December 10th 10am-4pm (South End, Boston) See the Lucia Pageants at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Enjoy music and indulge at the Kaffestugan: The Swedish Café. There will be activities for children, crafts, gifts and all sorts of Swedish holiday cheer. ($10 adults, children under 13 free)
An Alcott Christmas Stocking- Holiday Lights
(Concord) The Louisa May Alcott house is all decked out for Christmas. Stroll through the home and meet the Alcott family and community (as represented by actors). Be a part of a Victorian-era holiday party with caroling and other activities. This year’s holiday program is inspired by Miss Alcott’s poem What Polly Found in Her Stocking. Pre-paid reservations are recommended and include a 10% Museum Store discount! Reservations available hourly; please phone (978) 369-4118 ext 106 for further information or to make a reservation. Union Square Holiday Stroll
Saturday, December 10th, from 11 am – 4 pm (Somerville) Bop along the streets of Union Square to some live music, catch Santa and check out the Holiday Display Contest. Catch kernels of popcorn on your tongue and save your cash for the shops because free popcorn, cocoa and other treats will be available. Bantam Cider is offering their 22 oz growler jar for free when you fill it up with cider (usually $5), Brass Union will have craft vendros and free cocoa for kids as well as $5 spiked cider for adults. Cantina La Mexicana will have Hot Chocolate and Mexican sweets. Stop into CasaB for traditial Puerto Rican Holiday Tapas for $12 from 12pm – 11pm. Gracie’s Ice Cream is fluffing things up with a free fluff cone upgrade. Juliet will have ornament making for kids from 3-4:30 and is collecting for Toys for Tots as well. Workbar Union is offering free access for 2 weeks. In addition to 60 local businesses participating there will be over 80 vendors throughout Union Square with everything from Labels That Matter to the Lolly Cake Ladies and from Z Paper Studio to Nüssli 118. Taza Chocolate Factory Holiday Open House
Saturday & Sunday December 10th & 11th, 11 am – 5 pm (Somerville) Taza really knows how to throw an open house party. There will be free hot chocolate, guided chocolate tastings and tours, and a relaxation station with Somerville Soapworks. (free)
Heifer Farm Holiday Open House
Saturday & Sunday, December 10th and 11th 10 am – 4 pm (Rutland, MA) See what Heifer International is all about in person at the farm. Meet the animals, visit Santa and enjoy a hayride or take a holiday photo with a goat. There will be roasted chestnuts to enjoy, gingerbread cookies to decorate and crafts from around the world to try your hand at. (admission: donation of a canned good for the Worcester County Food Bank)
13th Annual SoWa Holiday Market
Saturday, December 10th 11 am – 6 pm, Sunday 11am-5pm (Boston) SoWa Holiday Market at the Benjamin Franklin Institute will be packed with vendors and people who get what it means to shop local. You can buy VIP Shopping passes ($15) and avoid the rush and crowds to shop from 10-11. Otherwise, just be zen and go with the flow as you take in all the creative endeavours that are on display. ($5 admission, children under 12 are free)
Chalk it Up for Allston for the ACLU
Saturday, December 10th 12 am -4 pm (Allston) Neighbors, creative folks and local artists are invited to chalk up the sidewalks with artwork reflecting love, inclusion and kindness at Roxy’s Grilled Cheese. All profits from sales between 12 am -4 pm will be donated to the ACLU. Sidewalk spots are at 485 Cambridge St and are first come, first served. Each artist is asked to post a photo of their work on Instagram, tagging @roxysgrilledcheese and using the hashtag #ChalkItUpAllston. The chalk art with the most likes by midnight on Dec. 10 wins! Prizes will be gift cards to local restaurants.
11th Annual Kendall Square Holiday on Ice
Saturday, December 10th from 11 am – 9 pm (Cambridge) There will be a free skating show at 2 pm as well as free admission all day. Skate rentals are an extra fee but you can bring your own skates if you have them.
20th Annual Ciclismo Classico Jingle Ride
Sunday, December 11th from 10:30 am to 3 pm. (Arlington, Cambrige, Boston) Join the folks from Ciclismo Classico for a fun 22 mild round trip ride (or parts of it) through town. There are some caroling stops here and there, cookies and hot cocoa in Harvard Square and a warm up stop in Arlington’s Menotomy Grill & Tavern on the way home. This is a parade on bike not a race so it’s open and welcoming to all. RSVP here (suggested donation of $25 for Horizons for Homeless Children)
