What happens when you combine craft, skill and a passion for all things creative? Fibergé shop-owner Lysha Broad knows the recipe.

“Since it first opened in 2004 at its original location, Fibergé has been a place for beautiful yarns with a warm environment in which one can learn a new skill,” Broad says. “It’s been a place to nurture the love of fiber art, knitting, and crocheting.”

After purchasing the shop in December 2014, Broad explains, “The same vision is still in place, but with added modern fabrics, sewing classes, spinning wheels, needle felting kits and locally-crafted goods.”

Today, Fibergé is a one-stop-shop for anything one would need for a sewing, knitting or crocheting project.

“[Our] mission is to offer a comfortable environment where crafters of all skill sets can be inspired, feel encouraged in a new skill, and take home beautiful project materials at a reasonable price,” Broad says.

Located in Pleasant Ridge, the store features quite the menu of unique items. “We sell fine yarns, many organic and hand-dyed” Broad explains, “modern fabrics, needle felting kits, notions, knitting needles, crochet hooks, Merlin Tree spinning wheels, soak wool wash, quilting supplies and local-made goods on consignment.”

Not only does Fibergé make sure the everyday crafter can find everything they need in one place, but they also are passionate about grooming beginners. “We not only carry beautiful products, but we also give a warm welcome to people when they walk through our doors,” Broad says. “We teach knitting, crochet, and sewing classes for all skill levels. We also have several Make + Take sewing classes where students leave with a completed – or nearly completed – project.”

Broad says she’s committed to cultivating a creative and relaxing environment. “We want people to feel comfortable enough to linger, knit a row or two while they’re here, and be inspired by what they see,” she says, adding that as a mother of three herself, “We also have a kids’ table in the back with some toys so frazzled moms can get a few minutes to breathe and fuel their creative outlet.”

Fibergé also stays true to their environmentally-friendly roots. “We recycle, use all LED lights throughout the shop, and instead of purchasing a bunch of new stuff, most of our display fixtures are made from repurposed furniture pieces or repurposed wood from other projects.” Broad says. “We also carry a large selection of organic fabrics and we’re proud to carry products from several smaller companies. One is an organic fabric line by a husband-wife duo in California; their fabrics are delicious and their patterns well-written.”

On the notion of shopping small, Broad explains the personal impact that conscious choices have.

“Purchases at small businesses directly impact the people you interact with,” Broad says. “For my shop, it’s my employees, my husband and three children. Small business purchases have a gigantic impact in families.”

One of the biggest missions of the shop is to make everyone feel at home. She adds, “We LOVE beginners! We tell our students to give themselves a lot of grace when learning their new skill; it can be intimidating and it’s our pleasure to take the intimidation out while giving students the skill they want.”

Broad emphasizes the benefits of taking time for creative outlets. “No matter what medium is chosen, there’s something very satisfactory about completing something with your hands,” she says. “The sense of accomplishment and being able to step back and admire your handiwork makes me, personally, stand taller.”
