Game Digital have reported a 5.0% decrease in group sales for the 52 weeks to 23 July 2016. UK sales fell by 10.8% for the same period. (Source: Retail Bulletin)

Greggs have reported a 6.0% increase in sales to £422m for the 26 weeks to 02 July 2016.

Suntory Holdings has posted a big jump in profits for its alcoholic beverages despite a slight fall in sales.



Next have reported a 1.8% increase in total sales for the 26 weeks 30 July 2016. Next Retail sales decreased by 0.7% while Next Directory sales increased by 5.4% for the same period.

Pendragon PLC have reported a 1.5% increase in sales to £2.3bn for the six months to 30 June 2016. Underlying profit before tax increased by 9.7% to £3.9m for the same period.

Pets at Home have reported an 8.9% increase in sales to £244.2m for the 16 weeks to 21 July 2016. Like-for-like sales increased by 2.7% for the same period.

Monster beverage Corp’s international sales continued to fire in the second quarter of the year to propel a strong first-half performance for the energy drinks maker.

Travis Perkins, the builders merchants, have reported a 5.8% increase in total group sales to £3.1bn for the six months 30 June 2016. Like-for-like sales increased by 3.1% while profit before tax stood at £176m for the same period.

Lifestyle LFLs were up by +1.77% this week off of a nominal decline of -0.1% for the same week last year. The result was the best for lifestyle in three weeks. Positive results were posted by gift retailers and department stores, outdoor goods retailers had mixed fortunes, while electronic goods retailers continued to struggle.

Fashion posted an LFL sales increase of +1.14% this week, its best result for eight weeks. In a week in which clothing and footwear outperformed accessories, 56% of fashion respondents saw positive bricks and mortar LFL sales amid a climate of widespread and deep discounting.

Homewares was the strongest performing sector this week with LFL sales of +8.67%. The strong performance was coming off of a marginally positive result for the same week last year (+0.6%). Retailers of furniture and soft furnishings did particularly well while negative results were seen from kitchenware retailers and department stores.

Non-store LFL sales also saw strong positive growth this week, up by +20.27%. 67% of fashion respondents were in positive territory online, with 73% of those reporting double or even triple digit growth. Meanwhile 83% of lifestyle respondents reported positive online growth, compared to 60% of homeware respondents.

According to the BRC-Nielsen Shop Price Index, overall shop prices reported deflation of 1.6% in July 2016, from a decline of 2.0% in June 2016. Non-food prices declined by 2.2% for July 2016. Food deflation remained at 0.8% in July 2016 same as in June 2016. Fresh food prices were reported 1.2 per cent down from July 2016 and ambient food was reported cheaper for the first time since April 2015.
