Aishwarya Rai is an Indian actress and model. In 1994, she won the Miss World title.
Aishwarya Rai was born on 1 November 1973 in Mangaluru, Karnataka. Her family was a Tulu speaking family and was formed from her parents, she and one elder brother. Aishwarya Rai’s father was an army biologist, her mother is homemaker and her brother, Aditya Rai, chose the engineer profession in the merchant navy. Unfortunately, Aishwarya Rai’s father passed away on 18 March 2017.

Aishwarya Rai spent a part of her childhood in Mangaluru, Karnataka, then, her family moved to Mumbai where Aishwarya followed Arya Vidya Mandir High School. She completed her education by attending Jai Hind College for one year and DG Ruparel College. As profession, Aishwarya first intended to follow a career in medicine then changed her preference by choosing the architecture. In order to become an architect, Aishwarya started the classes at Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture but gave up soon to follow a modelling career. During 5 years, Aishwarya trained in classical dance and music.
In 1991, Aishwarya debuted public by winning an international supermodel contest, organized by Ford. In 1993, she gained the public recognition trough his appearance in a commercial for Pepsi. After that, she participated in 1994 at Miss India (second place) and Miss World (she was the winner) contests. 
Her first commercial was in the 9th grade and it was a commercial for Camlin pencils products.
Aishwarya continued her modelling career till 1997 when she had the debut in film industry. The debut film of Aishwarya was a Tamil film – “Iruvar”. For this film, due to her bad pronunciation in Tamil, her dialogue was dubbed by Tamil actress, Rohini. “Iruvar” film won the Best Film award at the Belgrade International Film Festival. The second film of Aishwarya was “Pyaar Ho Gaya” – a romantic comedy. After these 2 films, Aishwarya won “Screen Award for Best Female Debut”.
In 1999, she is receiving her first lead role in the film “Aa Ab Laut Chalen” where she is playing a traditional Indian woman who is living in the United States. The film and her performance were not very well received, having several negative reviews. In the same year, she filmed “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” – a romantic drama having Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan as co-stars. “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” film was a success and gave her the notoriety in the film industry. She won an Award for Best Actress.
Other successful and notorious film of Aishwarya was “Devdas” – screened at Cannes Film Festival and listed by Times as one of “10 best films of the millennium”. “Devdas” was nominated at the BAFTA Awards and received also 10 Filmfare Awards (one of them was the second Best Actress award for Rai).
Till 2010, Aishwarya filmed several films, some of them criticized and others having good reviews and also wining Awards such as “Bride and Prejudice” (2004), “Shabd” (2005), “Jodhaa Akbar” (2008), “The Pink Panther 2” (2009), “Guzaarish” (2010).
From 2010 till 2015, Aishwarya had a pause from film acting. She resumed her activity in 2015 with the film “Jazbaa’’ and, in 2016, she filmed “Sarbjit” and “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”. In August 2018, she started the project “Gulab Jamun”, where she is playing alongside to her husband, Abhishek Bachchan.
Beside her acting performance, Aishwarya Rai filmed numerous commercial and modelled for brands as Titan Watches, Longines watches, L’Oréal, Coca-Cola, Lakmé Cosmetics, Casio pager, Philips, Palmolive, Lux, Fuji films, Nakshatra Diamond Jewellery and Kalyan Jewellers. “De Beers diamonds” named her the official brand ambassador and, in 2013, she with her husband have been named the brand ambassadors by the “TTK Group”.
Aishwarya had also numerous appearances in media, being one of the most popular Bollywood celebrities.
In the personal life, Aishwarya Rai had a relation with the actor Salman Khan. Their relation started in 1999 and ended in 2002 due to Salman Khan’s infidelity and indignity, according Aishwarya’s declaration.
In 2006, Aishwarya Rai met her husband, Abhishek Bachchan. They were filming “Dhoom 2” and Abhishek Bachchan felt in love with her. Their official engagement has been announced on 14 January 2007 and the ceremony had place on 20 April 2007 at the Bachchan residence, “Prateeksha”, in Juhu, Mumbai. Their couple become same famous as “Brangelina” (Luke Spencer and Laura Webber couple).
In November 2011, has born Bachchan’s family daughter, Aaradhya. After Aaradhya’s birth, Aishwarya put her career on the second plan and become a full-time mother. Now, Aishwarya is taking her daughter with her to celebrity events, Film festivals or family events and usually they are coordinating their outfits.
In the daily life, Aishwarya is very active in charity activities and she is often visiting orphanages. As hobbies, she loves knitting, collecting watches and reading. Her favorite movie is “Casablanca” (1942) and the favorite actors are Amitabh Bachchan, Raj Kapoor and Nargis.
