The building plan review for the proposed 383,161-square-foot FedEx Ground Package System Inc. hub facility is nearing completion.

FedEx industrial park construction continues

“They are on schedule to get their permit in May,” Tye Chighizola, the city of Ocala’s growth management director, said. “They may have to make a small modification (to the site plan) but they haven’t submitted that yet.”

FedEx has purchased 150 acres at the Ocala/Marion County Commerce Park, commonly referred to as the Magna property or Ocala 489 site, where it plans to make a $122 million capital investment by building a package hub. The proposed building is estimated to cost $75 million, with the balance being spent on machinery, equipment and land. FedEx is required to begin construction by July 31, with completion by Oct. 31, 2016.

Meanwhile, the city, which is nearing completion of its infrastructure contribution, is getting ready to pull its contractors off the site, which lies just east of Interstate 75 and north of U.S. 27. The electric, stormwater, sewer, water and reuse water lines, as well as the Northwest 35th Avenue road project the city has agreed to provide, are 90 to 95 percent completed.

According to Tami Rapier, the city’s division head for capital projects, May 3 is the project substantial completion date.

“The city will have fulfilled its obligation as far as the utilities and roadway completed on time and within budget,” Rapier said.

The budget for the city’s work is $2.39 million.

Larry Miller, the city’s project manager, said the sewer and stormwater lines are 100 percent installed. So are the water lines.
