If you have been following me for a while, or are even a past client, you’re very familiar with the emphasis I put on lighting. In the most beautifully-designed rooms that you see on Instagram, Pinterest, or even have the pleasure of visiting in real life, there is probably something more to them than aesthetically pleasing colors, fabrics, and textures- there is likely a feeling; a certain je ne sais quoi that’s more felt rather than seen. This can be attributed to several different elements- architectural details, natural light, and many other valuable elements that can’t be purchased or added. But one way to up the ante on that “vibe-y feeling” is to notice the lighting. More than likely, these spaces have incorporated a layered lighting plan that plays such and important (I’d say maybe even THE most important) part in a room. You need lighting to make a space feel functional, sure- but I’m here to say that you need more than you think, in all different forms, to make a space feel cozy and complete. A goal for every room, no?
One of the easiest places to start with this layered lighting objective is with table lamps. And I’m here to tell you about one lamp in particular that I find invaluable in adding that touch of coziness to each space- the Beachside Table Lamp from Serena & Lily. As you can tell from above, I own this lamp myself, and it has made its way around my home in several different iterations, adding a soft glow to a styled vignette or dimly-lit corner each time.
When I first purchase the Beachside Table Lamp, I was a bit worried that it would live up to its name- I thought that it was too “beachy” for my space (which is really anything but). But as you can see from the photos above, it fits right in with both my bright and Scandi-minimalist tendencies, as well as my Neo-traditional warm wood grain elements- quite a feat, I may add! It first sat on my sleek lacquered white credenza in my fiving room, adding a pop of texture to an otherwise white vignette. I then moved it to a cozy corner of my living room to sit atop a vintage French desk I found at an antique store.
It fit perfectly nestled into the eclectic gallery wall in my living room, and the soft glow gave this corner the attention it needed (nay, deserved!) at night. I think what keeps it from feeling too beachy is the shade- a soft white linen empire shade with modern lines and a low placement makes this lamp feel like something you have had for many years, passed down over time, but somehow works in any spot you place it.
After living in the gallery corner for little bit, I have since moved it to the opposite corner of the same room (see what I mean about the traveling lamp?) It now sits on top of my beloved chintz skirted table, and adds a pop of texture and airiness to a fairly bold (for me) corner. I really am just so in love the the angle of the shade, and how heavy the brass mechanisms feel when you turn the knob to dim it (did I mention that it’s dimmable? A must in any lamp). It’s still interesting enough to stand out on its own here, but also doesn’t take away from the other elements going on in this corner.
But knowing myself as well as I think that I do, this lamp will also soon find another home somewhere else just as lovely. Tell me: which spot is your favorite? Sharing some of my other gorgeous picks from Serena & Lily below:

Hastings Table Lamp / Flynn Petite Lamp
Amherst Swing Arm Lamp / Bari Table Lamp
Midbrook Table Lamp / Brighton Table Lamp (small)
and if you’re in the market for something other than a table lamp, here are my favorites to consider: the Santa Barbara Large Taper Pendant (a modern shape take on a traditional rattan pendant), the Atwater Flushmount (a lovely and sculptural pop of texture on any ceiling), the Flynn Single Wall Sconce in Wicker (perfect for those renting or not wanting to commit to a hardwired wall sconce!), and the Waverly Sconce (currently using a pair of these in my powder room makeover and they are just stunning in person).
Let me know if you pick any of these up, or if you have your own favorite lamps or other lighting pieces that you feel just make your space- I would love to see. Stay tuned to see where my lamp ends up next!
