This means that there has to be a strong development platform in play, not just for SAP to build its own software, but a platform that can serve the entire ecosystem engaged in rebuilding all the new digital experiences.
Today SAP made an announcement on significant innovations in our platform. These innovations are key to building the next generation of the application experiences.
SAP HANA VORA
The first innovation announcement is SAP HANA Vora. It is an important innovation as it fully extends the HANA–like analytics experience to ALL data. SAP HANA Vora plugs into the Apache SPARK framework which is part of Apache Hadoop, and allows us to bring OLAP-like analytics and business semantics of the data in and around the Hadoop ecosystem. This is so important- we reach meaningful contextual information when new unstructured data such as data from IoT sensors, machine telemetry or from social media, comes together with business data such as financial records, business goals, maintenance records, and employment data. It is only when these two different data sets meet, that business meaning is made. Meaningful business results require that we embrace ALL data, in a contextual way, to drive analytics driven outcomes.
SAP HANA Vora can benefit customers in industries where highly interactive big data analytics in business process context is paramount, such as financial services, telecommunications, healthcare and manufacturing. Examples include:
Mitigate risk and fraud by detecting new anomalies in financial transactions and customer history data
Optimize telecommunication bandwidth by analyzing traffic patterns to help avoid network bottlenecks and improve network quality of service (QoS).
Deliver preventive maintenance and improve product re-call process by analyzing bill-of-material, services records and sensor data together
HANA CLOUD PLATFORM BUSINESS SERVICES
The second innovation announcement is about the new Business Process-as-a-Service (BPaaS) capabilities of the SAP HANA Cloud Platform (HCP). HCP is the cloud platform for business that can serve the entire ecosystem engaged in rebuilding and re-imagining all the new digital experiences. These high value business services offer developers agilty and acceleration of building their business applications. At this time we are announcing two of these services in the BPaaS space: SAP Hybris as a Service and SAP Tax-Calculation-as-a Service.
New SAP Hybris as a Service on SAP HANA Cloud Platform allows you to quickly setup and deliver ecommerce capabilities and customer loyalty programs. These include: hybris Commerce, hybris Marketing and others.
New SAP Tax-Calculation-as-a-Service – is a RESTful API tax calculation microservice that automatically computes taxes anywhere in the world without the need of lawyers or the need to understand international tax law.
These business services are turnkey solutions that not only provide businesses with the agility to rapidly enter new markets and start new business models with new services for rapid app development and deployment such as: API Management, SAP HANA Cloud Integration enhancements, and gamification services.
SAP customers leading the digitization of their industry are getting tremendous value from SAP HANA Cloud Platform. Hamburg Port Authority is collecting a tremendous amount of information from their operational systems – the traffic cameras, the activities in the port, trucker updates. This is a classic scenario where we bring together IoT data, together with traditional supply and personnel management business data to create new real-time and contextual digital experiences, while gaining new efficiencies and optimization for their business.
