The sound of blues flooded our ears, as approximately 2,000 information security professionals settled into the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA, for the third annual RSA user conference, RSA Charge, from Oct 25-27. With our stomachs stuffed with local popular fare inclusive of crawfish, oysters & biegnets as we traversed Bourbon Street to the French Quarter, the conference provided peer-to-peer knowledge sharing, expert insights, town halls, customer advisory councils, and industry networking opportunities.

With nearly 200 speakers, 100 sessions, and more than 20 hands-on-labs, RSA Charge was energized with an infusion of education. Whether you stopped by the Innovation Zone to learn more about the RSA Link Community, visited our partners or appreciated the Eye-Vein verification techniques available through RSA Adaptive Authentication and the SecurID suite, the immersive product experiences showcased the latest innovative ideas in the security industry.

As the unique scraping of the zydeco washboard exited center stage, the senior vice president of RSA products reengaged the audience with RSA’s technology vision for business-driven security. Security exclusion – how we keep the bad guys out, security inclusion – how we let the good guys in, and how this lends itself to ensuring we have a business focused lens when considering security. The business driven security theme was omnipresent throughout the entirety of the sessions, as the business units within RSA bridged the gap of grief by relating the technology challenges of past, present and future, with their respective business ramifications.  One thing was especially clear – if you’re not having security discussions at the board level today, yesterday is gone – position yourself left of boom.

Fraud & Risk Intelligence customers came ready to discuss numerous topics inclusive of password-less authentication, biometrics, continuous authentication, 3D Secure 2.0, transaction signing, the evolution of mobile, and dark web intelligence.  Eager to learn from one another, network and share amongst their peers, the preemptive customer feedback influenced the nature of the anti-fraud tracks that gravitated towards panel discussions, customer advisory councils and town halls outside of simply presentations – all including a high degree of audience participation. As we explored cybercrime trends, the head of the Anti-Fraud Command Center; showcased Hiding in Plain Sight, Social Media Edition – describing the evolution of activity that has become increasingly naturalized on social media platforms.  The event wouldn’t have been complete without well-deserved recognition of our customers: Landsbankinn walked away with the Fraud & Risk Intelligence Implementation Best in Class award, thanks to their comprehensive view of mobile and online banking fraud. Asurion took home the RSA Fraud and Risk Intelligence Innovative Use Case Best in Class Award for their impressive reduction in fraud resulting in investment payback within 18 months!

Whether you explored the floats at Mardi Gras World or enjoyed a fish bowl on Bourbon Street while listening to jazz outdoors, one thing was clear: the energy filled rooms of the convention center garnered attention and a kindred spirit. This RSA user conference continues to evolve by showcasing innovation, product iterations, and enhancements to address the latest threats, while embracing each other’s expertise in a community driven fashion.
