Pompey fan Matt Loten has got in touch to let us know about another transfer.
If you’re allowed to post updates, Ed, are we allowed as well? Portsmouth have just confirmed the signing of striker Eoin Doyle, on loan from Preston until the end of the season. We reportedly beat off League One clubs for his signature (including high-flying Bolton), as Doyle was keen to be reunited with Paul Cook, who was his manager at Sligo Rovers and Chesterfield, where they won the League Two title in 2014.

Our man in Italy has his finger on pulse and Fabrizio Romano says the deal taking Odion Ighalo to China is now complete despite the Nigeria striker’s reluctance to leave the Premier League.
Odion Ighalo has joined the Chinese side Changchun Yatai for a fee of £17.1m from Watford. The Nigerian striker joined Watford in 2014 and scored 20 league goals as the club were promoted to the Premier League and a further 18 league goals in his first season in the English top flight.
This season, however, the 27-year-old has struggled for form and often been left out of the starting XI by the manager, Walter Mazzari. He was the subject of a bid from China in the summer but both club and player rejected it. Now, the player has, reluctantly it has to be said, agreed to leave the club. He passed a medical on Tuesday and the deal is expected to be announced shortly.

Meanwhile Yanic Wildschut’s move to Norwich for £7m (!) , looks like setting off a few dominoes down the pyramid. Wigan are now expected to move for Eastleigh’s Mikael Mandron, with Grimsby’s Omar Bogle continuing to interest clubs in the Championship including Reading and Rotherham.

David Sullivan, no not that one, has been in touch via email to ask if there are any updates on Arsenal. (Shocking, right????) he adds, not unreasonably. Well Carl Jenkinson appears no closer to completing his move to Crystal Palace despite a £7m fee being agreed ages ago. The word is the former Charlton defender wants a cool £70,000 a week to move to south London and join the Sam Allardyce revolution so he may be waiting a while.
As for the player formerly known as Mathieu Debuchy, it seems no one will take him off Arsenal’s hands despite the Frenchman admitting a fee weeks ago that Arsene Wenger barely says hello to him anymore. Sad times.

The West Country may not be a footballing hotbed, but hear me out for a minute. There is uproar in these parts about Matty Taylor’s decision to cross the divide and swap Bristol Rovers for Bristol City. Some Bristolians have drawn comparisons with Luis Figo’s decision to swap Barcelona for Real Madrid (conveniently overlooking the fact that Barcelona and Madrid are 623kms apart – obviously there are a few other details that don’t quite match up as well).
Anyway, the bottom line is that it’s a big story in Bristol, not least because Taylor is the first player to make this sort of switch for 30 years (as my colleague Ben Fisher reported earlier). Taylor also happens to have scored more league goals than anyone else in England’s top four divisions since the start of last season. A senior figure at Rovers has told me that they did everything they could to keep Taylor but were powerless because the striker made it absolutely clear that he wanted to go and also in the player’s contract there was a release clause, which was only £300,000.

So, Chelsea are interested in the Celtic striker, Moussa Dembélé, and they know that he is currently in London to see a knee specialist. He has previously had the injury scanned in Glasgow – there is nothing to worry about – but he now has an appointment with one of the top people in the field, just to make sure. It would not be a surprise if Chelsea were to try their luck with a cheeky bid for Dembélé, given that he is in town but, even if they did, the chances of it succeeding and a deal being scrambled over the line before 11pm are remote. Brendan Rodgers and Celtic are adamant about the 20-year-old staying for now and Dembélé himself is relaxed about doing so. This is one that will be revisited in the summer.

Scott Hogan has arrived at Aston Villa’s training ground for a medical after Brentford accepted an offer believed to be an initial £10m for the striker. West Ham had been the frontrunners to sign the 24-year-old who once played for non-league side Stocksbridge Park Steels but decided not to come back with a fourth bid having had three offers turned down by Brentford earlier this month, including one worth up to £12.5m.
The Londoners were holding out for a £15m fee with bonuses and it is understood that Villa were the first to match that offer despite interest from Crystal Palace and West Brom, with an extra £5m due if certain clauses related to appearances and goals are met. Hogan’s former club Rochdale are also due 30% of the fee due to a sell-on clause they inserted when they sold the Salford-born striker in 2014. Incidentally, Hogan was turned down by Rochdale twice before they eventually signed him from non-league side Hyde in 2013. That looks like a shrewd investment now.

Wayne Rooney will not be allowed to leave Manchester United before the end of the season, with José Mourinho stating he cannot afford to lose any more players following the departures of Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay.
Rooney is the subject of interest from clubs in China’s Super League, the competition’s transfer window closing at the end of February. Yet after Schneiderlin was sold to Everton and Depay to Lyon, Mourinho does not want his squad to be further depleted, especially as United are still competing in all four competitions.

Celta Vigo have signed the young attacking midfielder Andrew Hjulsager from Brøndby in Denmark. Hjulsager, who will cost the La Liga side €1m, will join up with his compatriots Daniel Wass and Pione Sisto at the Spanish club. He could make his debut against Real Madrid this weekend.

Leicester have turned down an improved bid from Sunderland for Leonardo Ulloa, believed to be £8m. If the striker goes anywhere it is more likely to be Spain. He’s injured at the moment but arrived at Leicester’s training ground this morning, leaving 90 minutes later. That could be ahead of a possible move – or just the time he was being treated for? David Moyes is desperate to sign him– he was also on Gus Poyet’s Wearside wanted list – but time is running out.

I can understand why no club are willing to pay Liverpool the £20m asking price for Mamadou Sakho. Jürgen Klopp has made it clear he doesn’t trust him – even playing Lucas in defence ahead of him – and then to expect any club to pay £20m is a bit odd. Why not sell him for £10m and then at least you’d save £100,000 a week on his salary.

Just a thought on players joining Turkish clubs as they near the end of their careers. As someone who’s relocated to Istanbul: I get it. Lovely weather, great food, gorgeous city, and a short hop to the rest of Europe. Mind you, saying Başakşehir is an Istanbul-based club is like saying Watford are a London-based club: it’s a funny suburb an hour from the centre of the city. Still, I get it, Emmanuel.

A few updates:
12.37pm GMT
Credit here to Stuart James who keeps filing transfer updates despite discovering that he seems to be the only staff writer who doesn’t get a picture with his byline. Keep going Stu! Here he is on Swansea:
It has been a productive transfer window for Swansea so far, given the signings of Martin Olsson, Tom Carroll and Luciano Narsingh, plus the imminent arrival of Jordan Ayew, yet the Welsh club look set to miss out on bringing in the experienced central defender that was so badly needed to strengthen their fragile backline. “Not impossible but very unlikely” is how Swansea describe their chances of signing a central defender on deadline day to compete with Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernandez. The other two options in that position, Mike van der Hoorn and Jordi Amat, are quite simply not up to the job.
12.32pm GMT
This is brilliant, from Paul Joyce (no, not that Paul Joyce). The old man with a beard on the ‘Der Westen’ website is Opa Pritschikowski (real name: ‘Paul Schwarz’), a miner who used to ring his bell when the players ran on to the pitch in the old Glückauf-Kampfbahn stadium. He died in 1983 but has his own song, which describes him carrying on going to watch Schalke no matter how old he got. Which is fitting, because any Schalke fans who managed to sit through their recent performances would have aged even quicker than Opa Pritschikowski did.
And here is the song. So wonderfully German.

Jay Rodriguez is talking to Southampton to try to establish where he stands in terms of his future at the club and the sort of playing opportunities he will get over the remainder of the season and beyond. Rodriguez was frustrated earlier in the season that Claude Puel, the Southampton manager, had not given him a run of matches, and the arrival of Manolo Gabbiadini from Napoli has raised more questions for Rodriguez about his role at the club, especially given Puel has so many attacking options. West Bromwich Albion have a longstanding interest in Rodriguez, who was previously on Tottenham’s radar, and tabled a £10m bid, yet Southampton have not given them any encouragement. Whether that could change on the back of Rodriguez’s discussions remains to be seen.
12.15pm GMT
Everton really have secured £7.5m plus £1.5m in add-ons from Sunderland for Bryan Oviedo and Darron Gibson. The bulk of the fee is understood to be for the Costa Rican left-back. Must be payback from David Moyes for that cheeky double-bid for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines when at Manchester United. Anyway, having confirmed that Burnley’s Michael Keane “is on the list” yesterday – albeit more of a long-term target – Ronald Koeman did not rule out late additions providing he feels they will immediately enhance the first team. The Everton manager is unlikely to stand in the way of Arouna Koné or Aaron Lennon leaving Goodison Park should acceptable offers arrive today.

Apart from hoping Mamadou Sakho finally takes the hint and clears off to Crystal Palace or Southampton, and the latest hint is accepting it may have to be a loan deal and not a permanent £20m transfer, Liverpool’s business is expected to concentrate on loan moves for their young players. Connor Randall’s first start of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday may also prove his last with several Championship clubs interested in the 21-year-old defender. Jordan Williams could also be set for his third loan spell away from Anfield with MK Dons linked with the Welsh midfielder.

If Aitor Karanka is unhappy at Middlesbrough, so, too - albeit in a much more subtle way - is his compatriot Rafa Benítez at Newcastle. This month has seen the appearance of the first fault lines in the relationship between Newcastle’s manager and Mike Ashley, the club’s owner. Essentially Ashley seems to believe Benitez should secure promotion without spending but the Spaniard is adamant further investment is needed to guarantee an immediate return to the Premier League.
Accordingly Benitez desperately wants Andros Townsend back from Crystal Palace - whether he gets his way may ultimately help determine his longer term future on Tyneside.

Sam Allardyce’s squad may be on the south coast ahead of their game at Bournemouth this evening, but Crystal Palace are expecting a busy day as they seek to reinforce ahead of tonight’s cut-off. Having already added Jeffrey Schlupp and Patrick van Aanholt to their ranks, they are confident of securing Luka Milivojevic from Olympiakos for around £11m. The Serbian midfielder has apparently said his goodbyes at the Greek club and is London-bound for a medical.
A number of centre-halves are under consideration, with Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho, the Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba and Kara Mbodji at Anderlecht all under strong consideration. Reports in Belgium suggest a £10m offer for the latter has already been rejected, while Sakho has spoken of Palace’s interest in this morning l’Equipe, suggesting he may need a few hours still to consider the move (or, presumably, to see if other interest crystalises from clubs further up the division).

Hull City are another club with an extremely important day ahead of them. Here is the latest.
Yann M’Vila looms large at the top of Marco Silva’s Hull shopping list. Mike Phelan’s successor would, ideally, like five signings today but the Rubin Kazan midfielder is apparently the one he wants more than any other. Anyone who watched the former France midfielder help keep Sunderland up last season will understand precisely why. M’Vila was on a different level to his Wearside team-mates and consistently raised the tone at the Stadium of Light. If Silva succeeds Hull’s survival chances will surely improve – and Sunderland fans will be very, very, cross.

VVV stands for ‘Venlose Voetbal Vereniging’, which apparently means ‘Venlo Football Association’. ‘Venlo’ is a municipality and a city in the southeastern Netherlands, near the German border.
Could that be right? Football Association. Football club I’d think (just guessing from the word förening in Swedish)

Well, how about this. Inter’s Jonathan Biabiany has turned down an offer to join Chelsea on loan for the rest of the season. He is not keen on joining a club on loan and is also waiting for an offer from China.

Arsenal’s Gedion Zelalem has joined VVV Venlo on loan. I wonder what the VVV stands for. Anyone?

Here is what we can expect from France today, courtesy of the excellent people at Get French Football News, who you can follow here. The Lille situation is quite remarkable. Talk about last-minute shopping. It’s like having to buy all your Christmas presents on the 24th… And spare a thought for Bordeaux…

Tosin Adarabioyo will not leave Manchester City before the window closes, despite interest from other clubs and the 19-year-old defender having only six months left on his contract. Discussions are ongoing regarding new terms and City, it is understood, are confident he will sign a fresh deal and commit himself to the club in the long term. Negotiations have become prolonged due to Adarabioyo’s demands though there is a sense an agreement will be reached in the end.

Here are all the moves involving clubs in the top five leagues in Europe - day by day and club by club.
We’ve had 430 transfers for a total value of £554,330,639 so far but I reckon we will sail past 500 today and probably £650m. Incredible really for a quiet January window.

There really aren’t enough unveilings with dogs in the background.

The marginalised Middlesbrough winger Carlos de Pena has joined Spanish second tier side Real Oviedo on loan until the end of the season as Aitor Karanka continues to fume about his board’s failure to secure the names at the top of his shopping list - Robert Snodgrass, Jesé, Bojan et al - this month.
Boro’s manager spent Monday’s press conference effectively throwing his toys out of his pram as he sulkily set himself on an apparent collision course with Steve Gibson, Boro’s owner. It should be intriguing to track events on Teesside in the coming weeks but, more immediately, today will determine whether Jordan Rhodes finally escapes Boro. So prolific at Championship level, Rhodes has barely been offered a kick this season – which rather begs the question are Karanka’s two signings so far this January - the strikers Rudy Gestede and Patrick Bamford – really better than the forward whose vital goals helped clinch last spring’s promotion?

We are less sure about Saed Kolasinac to Chelsea though. Reports in Germany seem to suggest that Schalke are going to stand firm and not allow him to leave. Whether that is just a ploy and an attempt to get Chelsea to up their bid of £8m remains to be seen.

Leon Bailey, a Hull target, has joined Bayer Leverkusen, saying that the club “is well known for developing players and that the football that is played there is very attractive”.

Good morning and welcome to our last transfer blog this window. Yes, it has come to this. It is the last day of January and clubs have less than 24 hours to complete deals they could have wrapped up several weeks ago. But let’s now dwell on that. It should be good actually. So many deals that could happen. Moussa Dembélé to Chelsea? Scott Hogan to Aston Villa? Tim Krul to Watford?

There has been a done deal already in France (probably several but I am struggling to keep up already…) but first, here is this morning’s Rumour Mill, including Yannick Carrasco possibly joining Manchester United
