La Liga: Alaves have been thrashed 6-0 at their own Estadio Mendizorroza by Barcelona, who go two points clear of Real Madrid at the La Liga summit having played three matches more. 5.02pm GMT

Premier League: Neither team is in any danger of going down or qualifying for the Europa League, so they’ll both be happy with a point. West Brom will be happier though, after rescuing it in the knockings.

5.00pm GMT

Premier League: A glum Sam Allardyce makes his way back to the visitors’ dressing room after seeing his team torpedoed by Stoke scoring machine Joe Allen’s second goal in 18 matches.

4.58pm GMT

Premier League: Juan Mata and Anthony Martial got the goals in a match that Manchester United won more convincingly than the scoreline suggests.

4.57pm GMT

League Two: Plymouth have whipped Exeter 3-0 in League Two’s big needle match.

4.56pm GMT

Premier League: Jonny Evans returns from injury to rescue a point for the Baggies. Or was it Gareth McAuley? Nobody seems quiet sure. I can say with some confidence that a centre-half from Northern Ireland has saved it at the death for West Brom.

4.54pm GMT

Premier League: The denizens of the Riverside Stadium are served up yet another treat as Middlesbrough fail to score once again, but at last secure themselves a valuable point.

4.53pm GMT

Premier League: Manolo Gabbiadini stole the headlines with two goals on another disappointing afternoon for Sunderland. Their players board a flight to New York for some sort of bonding session later this evening. It could be a long flight.

4.51pm GMT

Premier League: Manuel Lanzini shoots into the bottom left-hand corner from 20 yards or so to put West Ham ahead at the London Stadium.

4.49pm GMT

Premier League: Gah! Shane Long.

4.49pm GMT

Premier League: In this world of alternative truths and false news, I’d love to be able to report that Sunderland are 6-0 up, but nothing could be further from the truth. Jason Denayer has scored into the wrong goal to give Saints an unassailable lead. Hull have lost. Sunderland are losing. Crystal Palace are losing. If nothing else, Swansea City and Leicester are proving the best way to bolster your chances of staying up is to not play.

4.46pm GMT

Championship: Emyr Huws has put Ipswich 1-0 ahead against Aston Villa, while Liam Bridcutt has been sent off at Elland Road, where his Leeds team are losing 2-0 against Cardiff City.

4.44pm GMT

Championship: Darren Bent scores his second of the game to complete Derby County’s comeback against Bristol City, who have thrown away a three-goal lead. It’s 3-3 at Pride Park.

4.43pm GMT

Championship: Glenn Murray has made it Brighton 4-1 Burton Albion, while Ross McCormack has scored what is likely to be little more than a consolation for Nottingham Forest at Carrow Road. Forest are 4-1 down against Norwich.

4.42pm GMT

Scottish Premiership: Dundee 1-1 Kilmarnock

Scottish Cup: Celtic 6-0 Inverness CT (result), Ayr United 1-1 Clyde, Dunfermline 1-1 Hamilton Academical, East Fife 1-2 St Mirren, Ross County 0-0 Aberdeen, St Johnstone 0-1 Partick Thistle.

4.40pm GMT

Championship: Having been 3-0 down against Bristol City, they’ve banged in two goals to reduce the deficit to the bare minimum. Tom Ince has stepped up with their second to give them a fighting chance of rescuing a point or more.

4.37pm GMT

Championship: A goal that is. Once a much-hyped one to watch who never quite scaled the heights, Michael Kightly has scored for his fellow former Nottingham Forester Nigel Clough’s side. It’s Brighton 3-1 Burton Albion.

4.34pm GMT

Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Lucas, Milner, Lallana, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Mane, Firmino, Coutinho.

Subs: Karius, Sturridge, Klavan, Moreno, Can, Origi, Alexander-Arnold.

4.31pm GMT

Championship: Leeds will remain in the play-off places this evening whatever Norwich City do, but the Canaries will be delighted to learn that Cardiff City have doubled their lead at Elland Road. Neil Warnock’s men are 2-0 ahead.

4.29pm GMT

Championship: Alex Pritchard piles the pain on Nottingham Forest, whose fans are having a very rough trot of it this season. They are 4-0 down at Carrow Road.

4.28pm GMT

4.25pm GMT

Premier League: Crystal Palace’s woes shows no sign of abating as they go a goal behind at the Britannia Stadium. Joe Allen has put Stoke ahead on what is shaping up to be a very good afternoon indeed for Swansea City and Leicester City, who play each other tomorrow.

4.24pm GMT

Premier League: West Brom switch to a three-man defence, remove Nacer Chadli and immediately concede. SofianeFeghouli has fired West Ham level after having a goal disallowed in the first half.

4.22pm GMT

Championship: QPR have halved the deficit against Huddersfield and trail 2-1 after Luke Freeman pulled one back on the hour mark. Derby County have also got one at Pride Park, with Darren Bent giving the Rams a glimmer of hope. They trail Bristol City 3-1

4.20pm GMT

Premier League: Anthony Martial puts the finishing touch to a good move from Manchester United and Watford find themselves 2-0 down. Truth be told, they’re lucky to be just two down.

4.18pm GMT

Championship: The Seagulls are menacing Burton Albion to distraction, squawking loudly and attempting to steal their chips and ice-creams. Tomer Hemed has bagged his second of the game, this time from the penalty spot.

4.14pm GMT

Championship: Callum Robinson beats the offside trap to poke wide of Daniel Bentley and make it Preston 2-1 Brentford at Deepdale. At Elland Road, Cardiff are 1-0 up against Leeds courtesy of Sean Morrison’s strike in the 53rd minute.

4.09pm GMT

La Liga: In what is a dress rehearsal for the Copa del Rey final, Barcelona lead Alaves 2-0 at half-time. Luis Suarez opened the scoring for Barca and Neymar has doubled their lead.

4.08pm GMT

Championship: Rock bottom Rotherham lead relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers 1-0 thanks to Jon Taylor’s goal after 47 minutes. Meanwhile at the Amex Stadium, Sam Baldock has made it Brighton 2-0 Burton.

4.06pm GMT

Premier League: And no sooner has the whistle been blown than Manolo Gabbiadini goes close to scoring his hat-trick and increasing Southampton’s lead over Sunderland to 3-0. He got in front of his man at a corner, but couldn’t trouble the goalkeeper.

3.55pm GMT

La Liga: Real Betis 0-0 Valencia (result), Alaves 0-1 Barcelona (3.15pm kick-off).

3.54pm GMT

Scottish Premiership: Dundee 1-1 Kilmarnock

3.48pm GMT

Premier League: Manolo Gabbiadini scores his second of the game and his third in two for Southampton to make it 2-0. Sunderland fans of a certain age will remember an M Gabbiadini banging them in for fun - how they must wish Marco could come out of retirement for the second half. And no, he’s no relation.

3.42pm GMT

Championship: Pride Park may need a new name after an abject first half performance from the Derby County team that call it home. They’re now 3-0 down against Bristol City and Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham is on a hat-trick.

3.40pm GMT

Championship: A Scott Malone own goal has made it all square at Craven Cottage, where it’s Fulham 1-1 Wigan Athletic. Meanwhile at Loftus Road, Huddersfield are now 2-0 up against QPR thanks to Nahki Wells.

3.38pm GMT

League Two: George Cooper and Chris Dagnall have score two apiece to put Crewe Alexandra 4-0 up against Grimsby. Elsewhere in that division: Carlisle United 0-1 Blackpool, Colchester United 1-0 Barnet, Luton Town 0-0 Crawley Town, Mansfield Town 2-0 Hartlepool, Morecambe 0-0 Cambridge United, Notts County 2-0 Cheltenham Town, Plymouth Argyle 1-0 Exeter City, Portsmouth 1-0 Accrington Stanley, Stevenage 1-0 Wycombe Wanderers, Yeovil Town 0-0 Leyton Orient.

3.34pm GMT

Premier League: Manchester United have been piling the hurt on Watford and finally break the deadlock. Not long after Heuerelho Gomes had saved sensationally from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata popped up to open the scoring for United after 32 minutes.

3.33pm GMT

Premier League: Sunderland have gone a goal down against Saints, with Manolo Gabbiadini scoring a scrappy one that is unlikely to trouble the Goal of the Month jury. Still, they all count.

3.31pm GMT

Championship: Derby County 0-2 Bristol City. Those players Steve McClaren rested against Leicester in the FA Cup during the week don’t seem to have felt the benefit of their night off. Elsewhere Huddersfield Town have gone 1-0 up at QPR.

3.25pm GMT

Premier League: Trailing to West Brom at the London Stadium, West Ham have had an equaliser ruled out for offside. Sofiane Feghouli found the net from the edge of the area, but one of his team-mates appears to have been offside and interfering with play.

3.22pm GMT

3.20pm GMT

3.18pm GMT

League Two: Plymouth have taken a 1-0 lead against Exeter in the League Two match that’s stopped a nation. Well, a county. Well, the stands surrounding a small rectangle of grass in that county.

3.16pm GMT

Championship: Matt Taylor has scored his first goal for Bristol City after his controversial cross city move from Rovers on transfer Deadline Day. They lead Derby County 1-0.

3.15pm GMT

Championship: Brighton lead Burton Albion after 12 minutes after Tomer Hemed side-footed the Seagulls ahead. At Carrow Road, Jonny Howson has blasted Norwich City 1-0 up against Nottingham Forest.

3.13pm GMT

Unlike the goal-shy wastrels in the division above them, some League One sides have got off the mark early doors. Charlton Athletic lead AFC WImbledon 1-0, while Walsall have taken a one-goal lead against Bolton at the Macron Stadium. At Boundary Park, it’s 1-1 between Oldham and Checkatrade Trophy finalists Coventry City.

3.10pm GMT

Move along. Nothing to see here.

3.09pm GMT

Premier League: Stoke’s Marko Arnautovic brings a smart save out of Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey at the Britannia Stadium.

3.07pm GMT

3.05pm GMT

Conference Premier: Regan Charles-Cook writes his own little bit of football history by scoring the first goal in today’s three-o-clockers after two minutes for Solihull Motors against Arsenal’s next FA Cup opponents.

3.02pm GMT

“Some tasty fixtures in the Scottish lower leagues today, not least Dundee United’s trip to Falkirk,” writes Simon McMahon, our volunteer lower league fitba correspondent. “After a difficult January, United will be looking to build on a fine 3-0 win at home to Raith Rovers last week. A win today would see United move to within three points of leaders Hibs, who play city rivals Hearts in the Scottish Cup tomorrow. A win for fourth placed Falkirk could see them move to within three points of United themselves. So all to play for. In Scottish League One it’s top (Livingston) v bottom (Stranraer) and in Scottish League Two leaders Forfar host third placed Elgin, and there’s an Angus derby as Montrose meet Arbroath.”

3.00pm GMT

Teams the length and breadth of the UK and beyond are going through the last of their pre-match niceties and kick-off in our three-o-clockers is just moments away. May every shot your team’s striker fires goalwards travel with the power of 10,000 suns. And hey, let’s be careful out there.

2.53pm GMT

Premier League: David Hytner was the Guardian’s man gorging himself on the Arsenal hospitality buffet before braving the elements to type his frozen fingers to the bone in a bid to bring you this report as quickly as he possibly could. So you better like it! Incidentally, referee Mark Clattenburg has apologised to Hull City’s players for not disallowing Alexis Sanchez’s opening goal, which the Chilean international knocked into the goal with his arm.

2.40pm GMT

Scottish Cup: Moussa Dembele has bagged his second speedy hat-trick in a week for Celtic, taking just 14 minutes to bag three goals between the 45th and 59th minutes as his side skittled Inverness in the Scottish Cup fifth round. Mikael Lustig opened the scoring in the 20th minutes, while Kieran Tierney and Scott Brown chipped in with two more in the final five minutes.

2.28pm GMT

Arsenal have beaten Hull courtesy of two goals from Alexis Sanchez. After taking the lead courtesy of a contentious goal shortly after the half-hour, Arsenal had to work hard for the win and only sealed victory courtesy of a penalty in added time. Fans of both teams can take heart from what unfolded at the Emirates this afternoon. Hull played well.

Second-placed Brighton will leapfrog Newcastle for a few hours at least, if they can beat struggling Burton, who are scrapping to stay above the thick black line separating them from the bottom three. Newcastle travel to Molineux to play Wolves in the day’s late kick-off, but before that we could see a reshuffle of the four teams currently occupying the play-off places: four points separate Reading, Huddersfield, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday, with Norwich a further five points back in seventh. They entertain Nottingham Forest as they attempt to make up ground.

Down among the dead men, Rotherham are 15 points adrift and entertain fellow relegation contenders Blackburn. Rovers are third from bottom but will move out of the drop zone if they beat their hosts and Burton fail to beat Brighton. In 23rd place of the 24, Wigan are five points from safety and travel to Craven Cottage to play 10th placed Fulham. You can view the Championship table by clicking on this link.

9.33pm GMT

As we hurtle towards mid-February, Valentine’s Day and the return of the Champions League, there’s another weekend of hot and sweaty action to get through before thoughts turn to chocolates, champagne and a romantic night in front of the television watching PSG take on Barcelona. Out of sorts Arsenal have an appointment with Bayern Munich on Wednesday, but are currently playing Hull City at the Emirates in today’s early kick-off. It’s 1-0 to the Arsenal courtesy of a contentious Alexi Sanchez goal in the opening minutes of the second half and you can follow that one here with Scott Murray.

Ahead of today’s Anfield showdown between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, we have five 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League: Manchester United v Watford, Middlesbrough v Everton, Stoke City v Crystal Palace, Sunderland v Southampton and West Ham v West Brom. There’s plenty of Championship action to savour with 10 3pm kick-offs and we’ll keep you posted on what’s going on in League One and Two, while attempting to keep an eye on the Scottish Cup and Premiership, as well as the 3.15pm La Liga kick-off (and Copa del Rey final dress rehearsal) between Alaves and Barcelona.
