Right, thanks a lot for your company this afternoon. Yet another fine afternoon of football in the Premier League, Football League and beyond. It seems a good time to run off, with Liverpool and Leicester City just underway at Anfield. Do join the Barry Glendenning for that one. Bye!

5.31pm BST

“A little bit,” says Jack Wilshere, when asked if he was disappointed not to start against West Brom today for Bournemouth. “I spoke to the manager in the week and he’s got a plan for me and I’m happy to stick to it. I think I need a few games to get up to speed. A big reason why I came here was the manager and his philosophy, he’s been great for me and he’s a great coach. I’ve been working with him now for ten days, the training’s intense but that’s what I need now.”

5.28pm BST

It finished 5-2 at the Bernabéu, where Real Madrid beat Osasuna 5-2. There were five different scorers, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe, Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos and Danilo all finding the net.

5.23pm BST

And at the top of the Championship, err, Huddersfield Town are still there. David Wagner’s side, who spent pre-season in the wilderness, condemned Leeds United to defeat in the Yorkshire derby at Elland Road. Behind them, are Barnsley. Paul Heckingbottom’s side won away at Preston North End, with Newcastle loanee Adam Armstrong netting the winner. Elsewhere, there were good wins for Norwich City and Birmingham City over Cardiff City and Fulham respectively.

In League One, league leaders Bolton were held at home by MK Dons while Scunthorpe sent Phil Brown orange after thrashing Southend 4-0. The League Two table, meanwhile, looks eerily similar to most of last season, with Plymouth and Portsmouth soaring into first and second respectively. Elsewhere, Doncaster Rovers thrashed in-form Morecambe 5-1, with James Coppinger scoring on his 500th appearance for the club.

5.14pm BST

Well, how about that? West Ham were slowly unravelled by Walter Mazzarri’s Watford despite Dimitri Payet’s return to brilliance. The Frenchman’s Rabona to tee up Michail Antonio was nothing short of sublime.

Bournemouth have their first league win of the season, perhaps buoyed by Jack Wilshere’s appearance on the hour mark against West Brom, who played just like West Brom by all accounts. A fine day for Arsenal, in the end, who left it painfully late to put Southampton to the sword, who are still finding their feet under Claude Puel.

5.03pm BST

Celtic 5-1 Rangers

Aberdeen 1-1 Inverness CT

4.59pm BST

Brighton 0-2 Brentford

Fulham 0-1 Birmingham City

4.57pm BST

Laurent Koscielny’s birthday goal and a late, late, late Santi Cazorla penalty just about see off Southampton at the Emirates Stadium.

4.56pm BST

Bournemouth 1-0 West Brom

Burnley 1-1 Hull City

4.53pm BST

A 94th-minute penalty converted coolly by Santi Cazorla at the Emirates.

4.53pm BST

Robert Snodgrass is full of it at the moment, isn’t he? It’s a marvellous free-kick. That’s the Scotsman’s sixth goal in as many matches, after scoring a hat-trick on international duty in midweek.

4.52pm BST

Meanwhile, West Brom fans are feeling enthused:

Away fans sing 'Tony Pulis, your football is s***' #afcb 1 #wba 0 #utciad #ohdear

4.51pm BST

Penalty to Arsenal at the Emirates! José Fonte has been penalised for a foul on Olivier Giroud, where his trailing leg appears to catch the Frenchman.

4.49pm BST

Five minutes of added time at Dean Court, where Bournemouth lead West Brom. Elsewhere, Burnley remain in front against Hull City and Arsenal are going for the jugular against Southampton.

4.48pm BST

Osasuna have another goal against Real Madrid, but they still trail 5-2. Closer to home, Lee Novak’s found an equaliser for Charlton Athletic at Fleetwood Town and Crewe have doubled their lead over Exeter City.

4.46pm BST

Bristol City are level at the New York Stadium! It sounds better than it is. Bobby Reid’s got the Robins’ second in south Yorkshire.

4.45pm BST

Ryan Mason and Will Keane are on for their Hull City debuts at Turf Moor, but Burnley still lead. Elsewhere, Colchester are 3-1 to the good against Blackpool, Omar Bogle has scored again to put Grimsby in front and Carlisle have dug out an equaliser against Leyton Orient.

4.43pm BST

Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke has been replaced by Crystal Palace striker Jonathan Benteke. Elsewhere, James Coppinger has scored on his 500th appearances for Doncaster Rovers away at Morecambe. Fitting.

4.38pm BST

A timely strike by Callum Wilson. A fine cross from Adam Smith and Wilson brilliantly backheels towards goal. That’s his first since last September ...

SNAPSHOT: He's back amongst the goals... #afcb pic.twitter.com/YIjfzf5grz

4.36pm BST

Kiko Casilla has saved a penalty at the Bernabéu, where Real Madrid are romping away to victory against Osasuna. It’s 5-1.

4.34pm BST

Southampton’s Shane Long with a half-chance at Arsenal, but he heads over. Elsewhere, Bournemouth are still struggling to break down West Brom.

4.33pm BST

Championship news: Sam Gallagher’s second in Blackburn colours has levelled things up away at QPR. Brentford have doubled their lead at Brighton through Scott Hogan.

4.31pm BST

It’s Burnley 1-0 Hull City. Back-to-back home wins on the horizon at Turf Moor, perhaps?

4.30pm BST

After plenty of lethargic performances, Kane has his first goal of the season.

4.29pm BST

It’s still Burnley 0-0 Hull City. Yep.

4.28pm BST

Some more drama then up at Dunfermline. “Since you mentioned that Dundee United had gone 2-0 up at Dunfermline, we’ve conceded and had a man sent off,” emails Simon. “Maybe if you say we’re hanging on, we might score a third on the break?”

4.27pm BST

Wilshere watch. West Brom keeper Ben Foster’s just saved from Junior Stanislas after being fed through by none other than Jack Wilshere.

4.26pm BST

QPR are in front against Blackburn Rovers, thanks to Tjaronn Chery’s fourth goal of the season. Elsewhere in the Championship, Fernando Forestieri has put Sheffield Wednesday ahead at home to Wigan and Preston are level at Deepdale. In that red-hot A420 derby, Lloyd Jones has been sent off for Swindon Town.

4.23pm BST

Goal number six at the London Stadium. And, a good time for José Holebas to score his first Watford goal.

4.22pm BST

In the big news of the day, Jack Wilshere is on for Bournemouth against West Brom. Surprisingly, though, in place of Jordon Ibe.

4.21pm BST

Swindon Town are 2-0 up in arguably the biggest derby of the day, the beautifully named A420, against Oxford United. And Rotherham United are two-nil up against Bristol City, courtesy of an Aden Flint own goal.

4.20pm BST

Portsmouth are looking good for a fourth straight league win in League Two. They lead 4-2 against Wycombe, with Carl Baker scoring Pompey’s fourth. Jordan Slew has put Plymouth 2-0 up against Cambridge.

4.19pm BST

Dele Alli has scored his first goal of the season to surely put the finishing touches on a good day at the office for Mauricio Pochettino.

4.17pm BST

Leeds United are behind in that big, bad Yorkshire derby in the Championship. Manchester City loanee Aaron Mooy has put the visitors in front at Elland Road. Elsewhere, Colchester are in front against Blackpool and Bournemouth youngster Matt Butcher has scored his first senior goal for Yeovil against Hartlepool.

4.16pm BST

Spurs are in cruise control now. Mark Hughes’s dismissal from the touchline seems to have dampened any of Stoke’s hopes of victory this afternoon.

4.15pm BST

In League One, MK Dons have found an equaliser against Bolton and Matty Taylor’s scored his second of the afternoon to help Bristol Rovers draw level against Rochdale. Elsewhere, Stevenage are 2-0 to the good against Crawley Town in League Two.

4.13pm BST

Étienne Capoue’s third goal of the season has worsened the mood around the London Stadium. Dimitri Payet’s first-half Rabona surely cannot go to waste.

4.10pm BST

At the second time of asking, Clayton Donaldson converts from 12 yards. Birmingham City lead at Fulham. Elsewhere, Aberdeen are one-up against Inverness CT.

4.09pm BST

Dundee United are 2-0 up at Dunfermline, courtesy of Tony Andreu’s strike within 60 seconds of the restart. Dundee goalkeeper Cammy Bell – who in case you somehow missed it saved three first-half penalties – must be feeling ruddy magnificent. A fine day.

4.07pm BST

Palace lead at the Riverside Stadium! After being left out against Bournemouth, Zaha seems to have put that Tottenham transfer tittle-tattle well and truly behind him.

4.04pm BST

Who needs Upton Park when the London Stadium is already serving up four-goal thrillers? And it’s only half time. Neither defence has been spectacular, though the good ole Deeney-Ighalo formula seems to be working again. Also in London, Arsenal are making hard work of Southampton, who seem to have turned up at the Emirates.

It’s the same old story for Bournemouth, who have seen plenty of the ball but have failed to take a couple of the chances that have come their way against West Brom, who are yet to have a shot on target. Ouch.

4.01pm BST

Half-time essential viewing:

4.00pm BST

Plenty of talk surrounding the big one today. “Stoke struggled when they lost Hughes, very hard to replace him,” emails John, referring, I think, to Stoke City manager Mark Hughes being sent to stands. “Mark Hughes looks unhappy because Spurs have scored? Nobody is watching the Stoke v Spurs game are they,” says Alex. No, no they’re not.

“Simon McMahon should make sure no one sees the tangerine laser light he is shining in the penalty takers eyes,” emails Raymond, referring to Cammy Bell’s penalty-saving antics up at Dundee.

3.57pm BST

Elsewhere, Real Madrid have taken a 3-0 lead down the tunnel at half-time against Osasuna. In Germany, Hertha Berlin lead Ingolstadt, Gladbach are in front at Freiburg and Hamburg are being held by Bayer Leverkusen.

3.55pm BST

Brighton 0-1 Brentford

Fulham 0-0 Birmingham City

3.51pm BST

North of the border, there’s been some proper scintillating action. In the Scottish Championship, to be precise. Just listen to this tale from Simon McMahon:

“Afternoon Ben,” he emails. “In Scotland, Dundee United are leading Dunfermline at East End Park thanks to Simon Murray’s goal. But that’s not the story of the half. United keeper Cammy Bell has saved not one, not two, but THREE penalties in the first half. And he did save them all, they weren’t off target. That’s got to be a record, right?”

3.50pm BST

Troy Deeney’s first goal of the season has levelled things up against West Ham.

3.47pm BST

Middlesbrough 1-1 Crystal Palace

Burnley 0-0 Hull City

3.46pm BST

Portsmouth are in front, as predicted below and now lead 2-1 at Fratton Park.

3.45pm BST

Bournemouth should be in front against West Brom, but Callum Wilson puts a big chance over. Not so long ago the away supporters were singing, joyfully. “We’ve had shot” they sang. It doesn’t sound like Tony Pulis’s reputation will be too enhanced come full time at Dean Court.

“It’s another scintillating performance by West Brom today,” emails JR. “Of course we must tailor the meaning of ‘scintillating’ when it comes to the Baggies. For them it is defined as at least 30% possession and having a shot on target. Mission accomplished. Pulis has them absolutely purring.”

3.43pm BST

The Ighalo scoop is back! It’s back ladies and gentleman. He’s pulled one back at the London Stadium for Walter Mazzarri’s side. Game on!

3.42pm BST

Mark Hughes looks pretty unhappy. Tottenham move into the top four, for now at least.

3.40pm BST

Big Jon Parkin’s scored again! Newport County are level against Cheltenham! That’s his third goal of the season.

3.38pm BST

All square at the Riverside. That Palace joy did not last too long.

3.36pm BST

“Is the Benteke chant to the tune of Free Nelson Mandela by the special Aka?” asks Bouncer’s Dream via Twitter. You tell me folks, you tell me.

3.35pm BST

Michail Antonio again! Another header! Now that England call-up is beginning to make sense, although you already knew that. It’s a fine start for Slaven Bilic’s side against Watford, who are pretty erratic.

3.34pm BST

José Mourinho’s got some kind words for Manchester City’s new numero uno:

Related: José Mourinho: Claudio Bravo should have seen red for Rooney tackle

3.32pm BST

The Steven Fletcher has scored against Wigan at Hillsborough to level things up. Fletcher, Lambert, Jerome and more in the Championship eh? Amazing. Elsewhere, Scott Hogan has put Brentford ahead at Brighton.

3.30pm BST

An overhead kick. From a corner. Laurent Koscielny. Enough said. Arsenal are level then at the Emirates. It sounds absolutely spiffing. Down in the Championship, Birmingham City’s Clayton Donaldson has had his penalty at Craven Cottage saved by David Button, so it’s still goalless in that one. Barnsley, who believe it or not, are in mightily good form, are one-nil up at Preston.

3.27pm BST

Over at the Bernabéu, Cristiano Ronaldo has put Real Madrid ahead against Osasuna in La Liga. Atlético Madrid won 4-0 at Celta Vigo earlier on today.

3.22pm BST

Big Jon Parkin has levelled for Newport County at home to Cheltenham Town! That’s a big goal. Sheffield United are one-up at AFC Wimbledon too, courtesy of Mark Duffy. Meanwhile, Rochdale are now 2-1 up at the Memorial Stadium in Bristol.

3.21pm BST

Bournemouth are in the ascendency at Dean Court, which is was always going to happen wasn’t it? Jordon Ibe has made a quick start in this match, after a fairly slow start to his career on the south coast. West Brom, meanwhile, are proving resolute. Unsurprisingly.

3.20pm BST

Cameron Jerome has scored for Norwich City against Cardiff City. It’s 1-0 at Carrow Road. In League One, Bristol Rovers are behind at home to Rochdale.

3.19pm BST

It’s advantage to Claude Puel then at the Emirates, who played under Arsène Wenger at Monaco donkeys of years ago. It seems a little unfortunate for the Arsenal goalkeeper but Southampton will not care an inch, as they look for their first league win. Dusan Tadic’s free-kick hit the bar before bumbling over the line, via Cech’s back and shoulders. Lovely stuff.

3.16pm BST

Woaaaaah Christian Benteke, as it goes. It’s a crashing header from the Belgium striker, who opens his account in Palace colours. Down in League Two, Cheltenham have taken the lead at Newport County through Asa Hall. Accrington Stanley are one-up at Notts County too, courtesy of John O’Sullivan.

3.13pm BST

Portsmouth are behind against Wycombe, which most probably means Pompey will end up winning 3-1 after a sterling second-half display. Back in the Premier League, Chris Kamara’s going berserk at the London Stadium, where supposedly it’s end-to-end stuff and Odion Ighalo’s just gone close.

3.12pm BST

To Germany, where Thorgan Hazard has been doing Eden Hazard like things:

Thorgan Hazard with a superb goal. pic.twitter.com/4HUHC2AFn5

3.09pm BST

In the battle of Chelsea loanees ... Rotherham United’s Izzy Brown has scored his first goal in English football, so he’s one-up on Bristol City striker Tammy Abraham, who has five goals in seven games. City are in search of their first win at Rotherham in 21 years ...

Elsewhere, Plymouth are 1-0 up against Cambridge, Bolton are in front at hom eto MK Dons and there’s already two goals at Peterborough v Port Vale, where it’s 1-1.

3.07pm BST

Dimitri Payet finds England’s Michail Antonio, who has scored his fifth career goal against Watford. Another header, of course. Meanwhile, down in League Two Morecambe are behind early on at home to Doncaster Rovers. Andy Butler’s got that one after four minutes. Fleetwood are in front, and bloody nora, Will Grigg’s on Fire at Sheffield Wednesday!

3.04pm BST

We’re off! Andrew Surman’s made an early foul at Bournemouth. And West Ham have made a blistering start at home to Watford. Simone Zaza’s been doing overhead kicks and everything.

2.58pm BST

Crikey, it’s almost upon us. The big kick-offs are just a couple of minutes away, barring the biggies this evening: Liverpool v Leicester City and Derby v Newcastle United.

2.54pm BST

Remember Rickie Lambert? He starts for Cardiff City today in the Championship away at Norwich City. Cameron Jerome’s there too. What year of Premier League Years are we watching?

2.49pm BST

From that game at Old Trafford, here’s Daniel Taylor’s match report:

Related: Manchester City’s derby delight as De Bruyne inspires triumph over United

2.48pm BST

Hull City could go above Manchester United today. OK, it’s only week four of the season, but you feel as though they have every chance at Turf Moore today. Goal-machine Robert Snodgrass starts for Mike Phelan’s side. Jeff Hendrick and Ryan Mason, record signings at Burnley and Hull respectively, start life at their new clubs on the bench.

2.44pm BST

Away from Jack Wilshere, who starts on the bench today, it’s a ruddy big match for both Bournemouth and West Brom. Eddie Howe’s attracted bags of praise in the week, but his team are yet to win this season. Even West Brom have managed that. But there’s ongoing speculation surrounding Pulis’s future isn’t there. “It’s more like a continental-run club. At other clubs I’ve had much more control over certain things,” said Pulis on Friday.

Also, wouldn’t it be nice for Dimitri Payet, whose back in the starting lineup for West Ham, to just have one of those Euro 2016 days again? Those were the days ...

2.36pm BST

It’s another blockbuster in the Championship again today, too. There’s Leeds Leeds Leeds against Huddersfield, Fulham v Birmingham and Preston v Barnsley, another of the early pacesetters. Bristol City travel to Rotherham United and QPR host Blackburn Rovers, who could badly do with a result. In League One, Bradford take on Gillingham and in League Two, Portsmouth host Wycombe Wanderers.

Last night, Reading moved up to third in the second-tier (for now at least) with a penalty-crazy win over Ipswich Town. Cue Mad Mick moaning, perhaps fairly this time:

Related: Danny Williams’ injury-time penalty gives Reading victory over Ipswich

2.32pm BST

Moussa Dembélé, who scored goals for fun at Fulham, is having a similar effect north of the border:

Related: Celtic surge to 5-1 Old Firm win over Rangers after Moussa Dembélé hat-trick

2.28pm BST

Right, the headlines from today’s lineups then. On the south coast, Jack Wilshere is being made to wait that little bit longer, but at least he’s got best mate Benik Afobe for company on the Cherries bench this afternoon. Tony Pulis, who coached Eddie Howe as a 14-year-old and lives down the road from Dean Court, hands record-signing Nacer Chadli his first start. Whether Pulis wanted to sign him is another question ...

Elsewhere, Arsène Wenger has given debuts to his very own new signings against Southampton, who have Jay Rodriguez up front after Charlie Austin’s dreadful performance last time out. Other talking points? Wilfried Bony starts against Spurs, Dimitri Payet makes his first start of the season for West Ham and Mathieu Flamini is back on a Premier League bench, for Crystal Palace away at Middlesbrough.

Mourinho 0-1 Guardiola

Bournemouth: Boruc; A Smith, Francis, Cook; Daniels; Surman, Arter; Ibe, King, Stanislas, C Wilson

Subs: Federici, M Wilson, B Smith, Gosling, Gradel Afobe, Wilshere

1.04pm BST

Good afternoon! Away from that Mourinho, Guardiola, Zlatan, Barton and Brown nonsense and fanfare, there’s plenty more wondrous football to whet your appetites on a true British muggy Saturday. Whether it’s Jack Wilshere’s pending Bournemouth debut, Claude Puel’s reunion with Mr Wenger or the small fry of Huddersfield trying to retain their lead at the top of the Championship, after David Wagner’s bonkers pre-season, it’s going to be covered. Please rest assured.

Without further ado, team news from around the grounds will be imminent!
