Many people attempt to go far with their blog, but sort of leave it stale and untouched for long periods of time. If you want your blog to be successful and attract a lot of traffic, you will have to keep it updated. Fresh, regular content is the most important part of blogging (especially for newbies). It can be easy to feel blue and let your blog fade into nothingness, if you don’t see immediate results, but hang in there! There are ways you can motivate yourself to keep that blog full of fresh, new content.

Choose A Realistic Posting Frequency

Don’t burn yourself out too quickly. Aim for at least 1-2 posts a week. If you can post more often than that, then that’s great! You may find that, during the working week, you can get blog posts done more effectively than at weekends, when you’re supposed to be relaxing. Find windows in your schedule that you can dedicate to blog post writing. If you want to hold yourself to account, announce to your readership how often you plan to post; this means you will feel more compelled to meet your readership’s expectations of you.

Prepare For The “Off” Days

There will be days when you can’t – or you don’t feel like – blogging. And that’s okay. You just need a Plan B. On the days where you feel charged up for writing, don’t just stop at one post. Create a backlog of posts for rainy days, when you just don’t have the emotional energy to put together another article. If possible, have a writing day, where you get through the next two weeks of content. That way, it takes a load of pressure off you to get things done on time.

Stay Inspired

We all write best when we feel inspired – the words easily fall on to the page. Follow other, similar blogs on social media and you may be surprised at how inspired you become! Don’t copy others’ ideas, however. If you want to do something similar, link to the blog that inspired you.

Easy Wins

Is there any quick and easy content that you can smuggle into your schedule, which takes 5 minutes to put together? Think of simple posts (perhaps image-based) that need very little content, but are interesting for your readership. It just means that you a) have a wide variety of posts on your blog and b) don’t have to work so hard! Working too hard to keep your blog afloat can make you resent it, which will probably lead to you abandoning it altogether.

Encourage Comments And Emails

The more people who interact with your blog, the more you’ll feel empowered to continue with it. Ask your readers to get in touch with you. They are a great source of new content ideas too. They will often ask you questions – these questions can be turned into really valuable posts for your blog that people will be interested in.
