We’ve waxed lyrical many times about the virtues of denim but we can be guilty of getting stuck in a rut when it comes to our favourite fabric.

While it can be tempting to stick to the ‘jeans and a top’ combo, there are so many ways to wear denim so we teamed up with Ireland AM to look at some alternative styles ahead of the AW16 season.

Top stylist Sonja Mohlich picked some key pieces from Littlewoods Ireland and showed us exactly how to wear them – taking all of the guesswork out of changing up your wardrobe.

If you missed it, you can see the feature HERE or check out some of our favourite looks below…

Look 1

The bomber jacket is everywhere at the moment so if you’re looking for ways to wear your latest purchase, this outfit will be right up your street. People can often be afraid to layer denim but this a great example of how two pieces can be combined for a really cool effect. Stick to different colours to avoid a ‘Britney And Justin’ flashback!

SHOP THE LOOK: V By Very Floral Embroidered Sateen Bomber Jacket (€64), French Connection Denim Tencil Western Shirt Dress (€64, reduced from €97), Superdry Cassie Skinny Jean – Jet Black (€57), V By Very Lodge Elasticated Strappy Wedge Sandals (€36)

Look 2

Dungarees have previously had a reputation of looking a bit frumpy but this edgy look proves that that is certainly not the case anymore! The key here is finding a pair that flatter your figure and teaming them with something fitted, like this gorgeous Breton jumper.

SHOP THE LOOK: Levi Heritage Overalls Gold Rush Blue (€122), V By Very Stripe Button Detail Cotton Jumper, Lost Ink Eyelet Coat (€109), River Island Metallic Trim Plimsoll (€26, reduced by €40)

Look 3

Think florals for only for summer? Think again! This bomber/shirt combo is really unusual and is the perfect example of how layering can allow you to wear your favourite lightweight pieces right into the colder months.

SHOP THE LOOK: So Fabulous Bomber Jacket (€50), Alice & You Tieside Longline Shirt (€54), So Fabulous Bodysculpt Perfect Fit Skinny Jeans (€42), Clarks Balmer Bella Low Heel Brogue (€64)

Look 4

The leather jacket is such a staple for the colder months that we can often forget about the versatility of a little denim number. This one will really come into its own in the autumn, when the weather seems to change about four times a day!

SHOP THE LOOK: V By Very Lace Yoke Structured Midi Dress (€60), River Island Boxy Cropped Denim Jacket (€33, reduced from €53), Hilfiger Basic Cotton Sweater (€90), Miss Selfridge Ballet Wrap Heeled Shoes (€58)

Look 5

Forget about the LBD, it’s all about the LDD this season! This pinafore dress can be worn for so many occasions, from the office (with a white shirt, tights and heels) to a weekend trip with the family (try layering with a cotton sweater and a pair of plimsolls).

SHOP THE LOOK: So Fabulous Denim Pinafore (€45), So Fabulous Lattice Back Trench (€52), So Fabulous Striped Tie Front Jersey Top (€32), So Fabulous Bodysculpt Perfect Fit Skinny Jeans (€42), V By Very Garden Whipstitch Strappy Wedge Sandal (€32)

Look 6

This chic look is proof that denim doesn’t have to mean casual, as it can look stylish and modern when teamed with the right pieces. A longline cardigan is an invaluable purchase as it will make even the most basic outfit look more polished.

SHOP THE LOOK: Rochelle Humes Ripped Denim Skirt (€45), River Island Casual Shirt (€30, reduced from €35), V By Very Sleeveless Tux Waistcoat (€45), Miss Selfridge Geo Ghillie Tie Sandal (€58)
