The cannabis industry continues to grow in Canada and jobs in the licit and illicit markets of all kinds are available for those interested.
Once relegated to only those willing to risk both arrest and stigma, more people are coming out of the cannabis closet and embracing jobs in a sector they see as having a real future. And it’s no longer just growers or budtenders.
Job boards of all kinds see cannabis companies advertising for everything from sales help to marketing, growing, lab work, construction, and anything else any other industry would need to thrive.
Dispensary job listings on Craigslist are limited at the moment in Toronto—A dispensary in Toronto is looking for a Budtender for $13 an hour, while another dispensary, Canna Stop, is looking for a full time retail manager to help with daily operations—but several Vancouver dispensaries are actively looking for employees of all kinds.
From assistant manager to management and staff for a distribution / wholesale company in the cannabis industry, numerous dispensaries making their way through the city’s licensing process are seeking people to join their teams. One Burlington, Ontario dispensary is even seeking a Practitioner of Chinese Medicine.
In Vancouver, Eggs Canna Inc., recently posted a job listing for a General Manager for $55,000 a year. The chain has three stores, at least two of which are currently making their way through the city’s licensing program.
“With legalization around the corner, the listing says, “this new and existing industry is bringing a plethora of opportunities for the right candidates—do not miss your chance to be a pioneer in this new industry! This is a maternity leave position for one year with the potential to develop into a permanent job offer based on performance.”
Another dispensary licensed by Vancouver, Aura Health Studio & Dispensary, is looking for a Marketing Specialist with a Bachelor of Marketing and over five years of progressive marketing experience. Another dispensary identifying itself as licensed is seeking a customer service representative.
Blue Sky Organics, a company that specializes in certified-organic grow systems specifically formulated for cannabis, is looking for a Sales and Support Technician
Jobs in the fully legal medical cannabis market are also plentiful. Jobs either directly related to medical cannabis growers and producers under Health Canada’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR), or ancillary services, are also looking for people with numerous skills and talents, from growing to management to security to writing.
Zenabis, with an office in Delta BC, is looking for an assistant grower. Another BC Producer who recently received their sales license, In The Zone Produce, was recently looking for a Cultivation Production Manage. Tweed Inc is looking for a Chief Marketing Officer for their Smith Falls facility. Tweed’s sister company, Bedrocan Canada, is seeking a Compliance Officer.
A facility in Mississauga is seeking a grow manager to perform all tasks in the cannabis cultivation process including cloning, transplanting, plant maintenance, pest management, trimming, drying, curing, packaging, destruction, and material and product inventory management.
Aurora Cannabis, in Alberta, is looking for a Facility Director/ Plant Manager as well as a Quality Assurance Associate and a Chief Financial Officer.
Although now expired, Vangst Talent, a US-based staffing company that focusses on the cannabis market, was recently advertising for an Extraction Chemist with a BA/BS in chemistry, or equivalent combination of education and experience and expertise “in subcritical and supercritical CO2 extraction methods as well as the purification, separation and isolation of various compounds of cannabis.”
Broken Coast Cannabis in British Columbia is looking for custodial and shipping help, as well as an office assistant.
Just south of BC in Washington state, one cannabis farm is looking for general labour at $10/hr.
