The Main Stage at the Lift Cannabis Expo was packed full of amazing and knowledgable speakers, providing a great cross section of the cannabis industry. Sunday’s lineup included a Veterans panel on PTSD and cannabis, several talks on cannabis chemistry, genomics, grow methods and research and much more! The Main Stage area was full of crowds interested in learning more about the evolving cannabis industry in Canada and around the world.

Hubert Marceau, Phytochemia. Beyond THC: Overlooked chemistry. Most people have heard of the most active compound in Cannabis, THC. More recently, the attention of the producers has started to shift towards the non-bioactive compounds that make for the unique flavours and fragrances of the plant. What are these compounds, how can they be analyzed what is their impact on the organoleptics properties of the products?

PANEL: CMCC Roundtable. Patient-Centered Access to Medical Cannabis in Canada; An Intimate Discussion with 4 Industry Leaders. Join us for an interview with industry leaders Mark Gobuty (CEO, Peace Naturals Project), Greg Engel (CEO, Tilray), John Arbuthnot (VP, Delta9 Bio-Tech), and Rick Redekop, (CEO of RedeCan), moderated by long-time patient advocate and Interim Executive Director of the Canadian Medical Cannabis Council, Philippe Lucas. The panel will explore the challenges, opportunities, present and future of patient-centred medical cannabis access in Canada.

Jonathan Zaid CFAMM. Cannabis Legalization: Focusing on Patient Needs. Jonathan Zaid will touch on CFAMM’s work over the past year and speak to five recommendations on the access, affordability, and research of medical cannabis. As policymakers progress into cannabis legalization, these recommendations, which are already supported by The Arthritis Society and Canadian AIDS Society, are poised to provide guidance on key issues many patients face.

Jonathan Page, Anandia Labs. The Future of Cannabis Genetics. Jonathan Page, PhD is the founder and CEO of Anandia Labs and an Adjunct Professor, The University of British Columbia. Anandia Labs has used biochemical and genomic approaches to dissect the cannabinoid pathway in trichomes, and to catalog the genetic diversity present in hemp and marijuana types. Further advances in genomics will open up new avenues for fast-track breeding of cannabis: pest- and disease resistant strains, unique cannabinoid and terpene profiles, and high-yielding varieties adapted to diverse growing environments. To achieve these goals, growers and researchers need to catalog and share the immense diversity of cannabis that exists world-wide.

Dr. Chris Blue. The Science and Medicine of Cannabis. Chris holds medical licenses in Michigan and Ontario, Canada. His vast scope of training and expertise allows him to practice as a Hospitalist Physician and Emergency Room physician at Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus and provide regular assistance in the operating room. In addition, Dr. Blue has a private practice at the Ouellette Health Center where he focuses on preventive care, chronic disease management, outpatient office surgical procedures, interventional pain, and hormone replacement therapy.

Darren McCarty, Former player for the Detroit Redwings. Darren shares his life experiences of trials and tribulations and how medical marijuana became a priority in his life: “This plant saved my life. Mind body and soul. I want everyone to know there are options and it could save your life too.”

A Leamington, Ontario native, Darren is a 4 time Stanley Cup Champion and member of the famous “Grind Line” with the Detroit Red Wings. An enforcer that was respected as well as feared by his peers, Darren displayed a scorers touch during his 15 year NHL Career. In addition to be an accomplished musician,He is currently the Vice – President of Business Development for Cushman Wakefield, A worldwide leader in Commercial Real Estate. Darren also can be seen and heard as an analyst on the radio waves and on Fox Sports.

Tom Shipley, Tweed Inc. The Science of Extracts. Extracts can be prepared in a number of ways depending on the resources at the producer’s disposal and the desired end result. Join Tweed’s Director of Quality Assurance as he walks through the extraction processes used at Tweed. If you’re lucky he might even work in a sweet Thomas Dolby reference or two!

Koppert Biological Systems. Integrated Biological Control of Cannabis Pests. Discussing pest pressures in cannabis crops and natural solutions rather than chemical solutions. Grow greener, grow natural.
