Movies, as it is said, are all about lights, camera and action. And in Bollywood, the action part is taken very seriously. The smoother the action sequences are, the more grit and physical toil it involves, surprisingly, on the part of the actor as well.
Earlier there were body doubles and stunt men who used to perform all the stunts and action scenes on behalf of the hero. But with time, the number of actors who use body doubles have been reduced, thus increasing the number of accidents and mishaps. Here is a list of actors who got injured during the shoot of your favourite films:
Amitabh Bachchan
This is probably the most notorious injury story in Bollywood. Big B got grievously injured when the edge of a table pierced through his abdomen and intestine during the shoot of an action sequence for the film Coolie (1983). It took him more than half a month to get out of the hospital due to heavy blood loss. This incident made the entire nation pray for him while he recovered. Though an old story, the list had to start with him because it was when we were on the verge of losing our Shahenshah (this happened even before the film Shahenshah was made).
Salman Khan
Sallu Bhai has also been a victim of many such mishaps. He suffered a ligament tear during the shoot of Wanted and the same injury aggravated during the making of an intense action sequence of Dabangg. He also injured his toe and ankle during the shoot of Jai Ho. Recently in Kashmir, where Bajrangi Bhaijaan was under production, he suffered an ear infection and sinusitis. He still continued the shoot with help of pain killers.
Shah Rukh Khan
SRK can be called the King of injuries as well, because his few injuries include broken ribs, shoulder, right toe, backbone, and twisted ankle, neck injury, and knee injury. His shoulder was injured severely while shooting for Dulha Mil Gaya in 2009, Happy New Year (2014). While shooting Fan, he injured his hamstring and sprained his leg.
Ranveer Singh
The happy-go-lucky Ranveer Singh is no less when it comes to injuries. The actor had a complete spinal cord collapse during the shoot of Lootera and was advised bed rest for a very long period of time. During the making of a song from Gunday he lost his balance and suffered a deep cut on his cheek. While performing for an action sequence for Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Bajirao Mastani, he fell from a horse and injured his shoulder. Sushant Singh Rajput
Mr. Singh who has been practising day and night for his role in the M. S. Dhoni biopic of the same name, injured his ribs while perfecting the signature Helicopter shot (originally invented by the real M. S. Dhoni). Because of this he was off the action for almost a month.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Unexpected, but we do have women in the list. The beautiful actress was hit by a Jeep, which was supposed to stop 20 feet away (but didn’t), while rehearsing a scene from Khakee and was left with a fractured foot and some bad bruises.
Akshay Kumar
Undoubtedly the number of injuries Mr. Khiladi has had runs parallel to the count of his hit movies. While shooting for Rowdy Rathore his leg got severely injured when the truck driver missed on timing and a wheel ran over Akshay’s foot. Lately, while shooting for Singh Is Bliing, Kumar burned his leg while performing a stunt for the introductory song "Tung Tung Baje". After all of this, he still chooses to do his stunts himself.
Hrithik Roshan
One of the most attractive actors in Bollywood has had bad hair days as well. The star suffered a brain injury while shooting for Bang Bang, which resulted in a blood clot that required to be operated immediately. Not only this, he also suffered from severe back issues while shooting for the action sequences for Agneepath. Nothing like this seems to have happened to him when he is dancing onscreen. Hats off!
John Abraham
While shooting the climax scene for his much-acclaimed film Shootout at Wadala, the hunk survived a near-to-death incident. While Anil Kapoor was supposed to shoot a blank bullet at him from a distance of 15 meters, he was shot from a distance of 1.5 meters. As a result, the right side of his neck was burnt and there is still a scar on his collarbone. Nope, not done yet – he also busted his knees during the shoot of his upcoming film Force Square and had to undergo a surgery.
Anushka Sharma
During the filming of NH10, the actor-turned-producer suffered from back issues because of the rough scenes and not to forget – a sandstorm. Lately, there have been reports of her getting a shoulder injury while shooting for an action sequence of Sultan.
Well, it is quite evident now that all the glam and stardom they possess is a result of hard work, passion, courage, and a few bruises and broken bones.
