It's that time again! The time to bid farewell to yet another fantastic month at the movies. As promised, we're back; back to take you through the films that released this month. From the highly-anticipated ones to the smaller ones, we try to cover all.
As usual, there were innumerable releases and it would have been really hard to catch up with all. Just like we did in the last month, we will take a look at how films fared; the must-watches and the ones that could be spared one watch. Let's find out!
HITS
Budhia Singh – Born To Run
This Manoj Bajpayee-starrer wasn't really the most hyped movie prior to its release. However, it seemed to have surprised people across the country with its sincere and engaging story.
Dishoom
Dishoom was everything a Dhawan film should be. It had humor and power-packed sequences. The film turned out to be quite a crowd-pleaser.
Pete's Dragon
When a film is a Disney release, the expectations very naturally rise. Did it deliver what was expected of it? Sure, it did. The film wasn't just heart-warming, but visually-engaging too.
Mohenjo Daro
For someone who loves history, this proved to be an absolute treat.
Having a director that has delivered some gems in the past, the film turned out to be nothing short of great music and brilliant performances.
Rustom
What can be more exciting than watching an Akshay Kumar-flick? Especially when he is playing a kind of role that he hasn't attempted before. This Tinu Desai-outing worked with viewers because of its engaging plot, its music and an optimum flavor of patriotism.
War Dogs
This film is about two young men who win a $300 million contract.
War Dogs apparently delivered much more than viewers’ expectations. Not only was it high on comedy, it had twists that were on point.
Happy Bhag Jayegi
Happy Bhag Jayegi turned out to be everything a light-hearted film should be. The film featured stellar performances, great comic timing, and it was Diana Penty's second film, one worthy of that mark.
In Regional Cinema:
August also had numerous regional ventures that were appreciated. Some of these are include – Taleem (Marathi), Ann Maria Kalippilaanu (Malayalam), Manamantha (Telugu), Chauthi Koot (Punjabi), Babu Bangaram (Telugu), YZ (Marathi), Kotigobba 2 (Kannada), Eagoler Chokh (Bengali) and Hemanta (Bengali).
MISSES
Some films missed by a narrow margin. A few of these include The Legend of Michael Mishra (Hindi), Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara (Hindi) and Chuttalabbayi (Telugu).
Well, that was all for August. With highly-anticipated films like Baar Baar Dekho and Pink releasing, let's hope September is even better.
