Rolling Stone magazine has taken on the task of
compiling a list of the best boy band songs in history, or “pre-fab
pop’s most scream-worthy songs.”
On their diverse list that includes songs that span over several
generations of music, Rolling Stone includes five tracks from what the
writers call “our Korean pop future.” Read below to see which of your
favorites made the list!
42. INFINITE, “The Chaser” (2012).
Rolling Stone commends producers Sweetune for their
hit track “The Chaser,” commenting that the song “brought their
dramatic, synth-pop sound to an emotional apex via this unforgiving
blend of trumpet blasts and dynamic guitar licks answering the boys’
heartfelt belts.”
36. Seo Taiji and Boys, “Nan Arayo (I Know)” (1992).
Seo Taiji and Boys get recognition from Rolling Stone for being
pioneers in K-Pop and for “kicking everything off with their
game-changing 1992 debut single, ‘Nan Arayo (I Know).’”
31. TVXQ, “Mirotic” (2008).
Rolling Stone credits “Mirotic” with being one of TVXQ’s first songs
to gain them critical praise on top of their already huge power on the
charts.
22. BIGBANG, “Fantastic Baby” (2012).
“Fantastic Baby” is of course a natural fit for the list considering
its jaw-dropping number of hits on YouTube. “This modern-day essential
showcases K-pop’s genre-bending, visually-oriented charms,” writes
Rolling Stone.
12. SHINee, “Sherlock” (2012).
“Sherlock” by SHINee takes the top place among all the Korean
representatives on Rolling Stone’s list. The article notes, “the Jackson
5-recalling tune shows how innovative and experimental K-pop can get,
even for its most mainstream acts.”
