BECAUSE AN ORDINARY PLACE IS NOT A COMMONPLACE
Il Bistrot-Caffetteria BiStrani, al civico 1, in via Sassari a Torino, nasce come uno spazio umano e culturale dove ritrovarsi per un caffè, scambiare due chiacchiere, condividere
momenti di studio, ricerca, relax, formazione e informazione: tutto nella norma, finché non scopriamo che si tratta in primis di un laboratorio di inclusione sociale e professionale
gestito interamente da persone affette da autismo e dove le stesse, in uno spazio tutto loro, a misura di inclusione, hanno l’opportunità di relazionarsi con gli altri, vivere esperienze concrete
e formative nel mondo del lavoro e delle relazioni, con un’attenzione speciale alle loro attitudini.
A dar vita al progetto, la Onlus Autismo e Società che ha curato la fase teorico pratica di preparazione dei quattro ragazzi ai quali è affidata la gestione di questa straordinaria
attività: si tratta, almeno inizialmente, di un inserimento a tempo limitato, che non esclude la possibilità – una volta diventati autonomi nelle mansioni assegnate – di veder prolungare la loro
esperienza.
Al BiStrani gli speciali gestori imparano a misurarsi con il lavoro e le relazioni legate alla quotidianità, ma soprattutto i fruitori hanno l’opportunità di mettere alla prova
se stessi e i luoghi comuni che spesso inibiscono o condizionano negativamente l’approccio con la diversità, provando a sovvertirli: il Caffè-Bistrot sarà dunque un contenitore culturale,
privilegiato volano per formazione e integrazione, iniziative sul vino e sul cibo, eventi speciali. Al suo interno è stata allestita anche una Libreria dove si possono prendere libri in prestito,
secondo la prassi del book-sharing, o leggerli direttamente nell’angolo lettura appositamente allestito.
BiStrani, a bistro-coffee shop located in Turin, Via Sassari 1, started as a human and cultural space where people could gather to have a coffee, to chat, to exchange information, to
share in moments of study, research, relax and training. We could say business as usual until we find out that BiStrani is, in the first place, a workshop of social and professional inclusion
managed by people with autism where they have the opportunity of relating to others, of getting first-hand experience of the world of work and relationships, paying specific attention to their
attitudes.
The project was started by Onlus Autismo e Società, a non-profit organization that pursues social utility objectives. The organization has trained the four young men who are responsible
for managing such extraordinary business. Initially, their employment is for a limited period. However, there is the possibility of extending the work experience once they can perform their job
autonomously.
At BiStrani, the managers learn how to handle daily work and relationships while customers can prove themselves, challenging commonplace beliefs that often prevent or negatively affect
the approach to diversity. The bistro-coffee shop will be a cultural container that fosters training and integration while, at the same time, organizing wine and food events as well as special
events. The coffee shop has also a library where one can borrow books on a book-sharing basis or read them in the purposefully arranged reading corner.
