Product Recalls for the Week of March 6, 2017:
Meijer Muenster Cheese: Meijer expanded its list of recalled items to now include its Meijer brand Artisan Made Natural Muenster Cheese and its pre-wrapped Ham Sub on Artisan White Baguette due to a potential cross contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, a Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. The affected Meijer brand Artisan Made Natural Muenster Cheese was located on “cheese islands” within the Retailer’s Deli section and has the expiration dates of Mar. 28, 2017, May 13, 2107, and June 10, 2017. The Meijer pre-made Ham Sub on Artisan White Baguette was located in its “grab-and-go” fresh deli cases with sell by dates between Nov. 2, 2016 and Dec. 30, 2016. There have been no known illnesses reported to Meijer associated with these products. The Meijer brand Artisan Made Natural Muenster Cheese will have the UPC 8-86926 27573-5. The Meijer deli- made Ham Sub on Artisan White Baguette has the UPC Code 7-13733 76499-5. Customers should stop using the products and either dispose of it or return it to the customer service desk at any Meijer store for a full refund. Recall Date: 03/03/2017
Dog & Cat Food: Evanger’s Dog & Cat Food is voluntarily expanding its recall of Hunk of Beef and is also recalling Evanger’s Braised Beef and Against the Grain’s Pulled Beef Products due to potential adulteration with pentobarbital. Oral exposure to pentobarbital can cause drowsiness, dizziness, excitement, loss of balance, nausea, nystagmus (eyes moving back and forth in a jerky manner), inability to stand, coma and death. Consumers who notice these symptoms in their pets should consult their veterinarian. The 12 oz. cans of dog foods that are being voluntarily recalled have the following barcodes. The numbers listed below are the second half of the barcode, which can be found on the back of the product label Evanger’s: Hunk of Beef: 20109; Evanger’s: Braised Beef: 20107; and Against the Grain: Pulled Beef: 80001. The three products being voluntarily recalled were manufactured between December 2015 and January 2017, and have expiration dates of December 2019 through January 2021. These products were distributed online and through independent boutique pet stores nationwide. Consumers may return any can of the aforementioned products to their place of purchase for a full refund for the inconvenience. Recall Date: 03/03/2017
Soynut Butter: The SoyNut Butter Co. is recalling I.M. Healthy Original Creamy SoyNut Butter product because it may be contaminated with Escherichia coli O157:H7 bacteria E. Coli O157:H7). E. coli O157:H7 causes a diarrheal illness often with bloody stools. I.M. Healthy Original Creamy SoyNut Butter was distributed in multiple states and may have been purchased in stores or through mail order. It was also distributed to childcare centers and schools in multiple states. The product has been packaged in 15 oz plastic jars with the Best By dates July 05, 2018, August 30, 2018, and August 31, 2018; individual portion cups with the Best By date as August 08, 2018; and 4 lb plastic tubs with Best By dates of November 16, 2018 and July 25, 2018. The recall was initiated after ill people or their family members answered questions about the foods they ate and other exposures in the week before they became ill. Nine (100%) of the nine people reached for interview reported either eating I.M. Healthy brand SoyNut Butter at home (five people) in the week before they became ill or attending a childcare center that served I.M. Healthy brand SoyNut Butter. Consumers who have purchased I.M. Healthy SoyNut Butter are urged not to consume the product and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Recall Date: 03/04/2017
Milk Chocolate Ear Bunny Suckers: Landies Candies Co. Inc. is recalling its 3-oz packages of “WEGMANS Milk Chocolate Big Ear Bunny Sucker”, Net Wt 3 oz, Lot # 35016, Best by 9-15-2017 because they may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. The recalled WEGMANS MILK CHOCOLATE (BIG EAR BUNNY) SUCKER” were distributed regionally in all Wegmans retail stores. The product is shipped within a carton labeled with an orange label as “WEGMANS SWISS RECIPE Milk Chocolate Big Ear Bunny Sucker (3 oz 36 count case). The individual product contains a lavender label and read Wegmans Milk Chocolate Sucker, comes in a 3-oz., clear plastic flow wrap 6” long by 2” wide and is marked with lot # 35016 and with an expiration date of 9-15-2017 stamped on the lower left corner. Consumers who have purchased the product are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Recall Date: 03/06/2017
Beef Shaved Steak: F.B. Packing Co., Inc. is recalling approximately 8,430 pounds of shaved beef products that may be contaminated with plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The shaved steak items were produced on Dec. 21, 2016. Products subject to recall include 10-pound poly bag packages containing thin-sliced (shaved) pieces of “Frank Bertolino Beef Co. Inc. Certified Angus Beef XL Shaved Steak” with case code 71888 and 10-pound poly bag packages containing thin-sliced (shaved) pieces of “Bellissimo Silver Beef Shaved Steak.” with case code 71882. The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 17994A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The cases bear a “Use by” date of 7/21/2017. These items were shipped to retail locations in Illinois and Massachusetts. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Pork Sausage Products: Rochester Meat Company is recalling approximately 13,330 pounds of pork sausage products due to misbranding , the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The products contain monosodium glutamate (MSG), an ingredient which is not declared on the product label. The raw pork sausage products were produced on various dates from Nov. 14, 2016 through Feb. 3, 2017. Products subject to recall include 10-pound bulk boxes containing 40 patties per box of Rochester Meat Company “Pork Sausage Patties,” bearing the case code 10012724390418; 10-pound bulk boxes containing 50 patties per box of Rochester Meat Company “Pork Sausage Patties,” bearing the case code 10012724390517; 10-pound bulk boxes containing 80 patties per box of Rochester Meat Company “Pork Sausage Patties,” bearing the case code 1002724390029; 10-pound bulk boxes containing 50 patties per box of Rochester Meat Company “Pork Sausage Patties NAT,” bearing the case code 1002724390036; and 10-pound bulk boxes containing 160 – 1 oz. links of Rochester Meat Company “Pork Sausage Links,” bearing the case code 1002724391002. The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 8999” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to institutional locations in Indiana, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The problem was discovered on March 2, 2017 by company personnel during routine label reviews. FSIS was notified on that same date. Recall Date: 03/06/2017
Wash-Rind Raw Milk Cheeses: Vulto Creamery, Walton, New York, is recalling all lots of Ouleout, Miranda, Heinennellie, and Willowemoc soft wash-rind raw milk cheeses out of an abundance of caution due to testing result from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), which found Ouleout lot # 617 positive for Listeria monocytogenes and New York Department of Agriculture and Markets finding the possible contamination of Ouleout lot #623. The soft raw milk cheeses were distributed nationwide, with most being sold at retail locations in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic States, California, Chicago, Portland and Washington, DC. Consumers that have any of these soft raw milk cheeses from Vulto Creamery should return the cheese to the purchase location for a refund. Food and cheese wholesalers and retailers with any of the Vulto Creamery soft, wash-rind raw milk cheeses on hand should immediately remove these products from common storage coolers and quarantine these cheeses in a secured area of a cooler. Any wholesaler or distributor that has any of the four cheeses should contact Vulto Creamery to receive instructions on what to do with the cheese. No recalled cheese should be destroyed until Vulto Creamery has been notified and agrees. Recall Date: 03/07/2017
Soynut Butter and Healthy Granola: The SoyNut Butter Co. is recalling all varieties of I.M. Healthy SoyNut Butters and all varieties of I.M. Healthy Granola products because they may be contaminated with Escherichia coli O157:H7 bacteria (E. Coli O157:H7). E. coli O157:H7 causes a diarrheal illness often with bloody stools. I.M. Healthy Products were distributed in multiple states and may have been purchased in stores or through mail order. They were also distributed to childcare centers and schools in multiple states. All Best Buy dates of all varieties are affected. I.M. Healthy SoyNut Butter has been packaged in 15 oz plastic jars, individual portion cups, 4 lb plastic tubs, or 45 lb pails. SoyNut Butter is available in Original Creamy, Chunky, Honey Creamy, Unsweetened and Chocolate. The granola has been packaged in individual serving packages, 12 oz bags, 50 oz bags, and 25 lb bulk bag. I.M. Healthy Granola is available in Original, Apple, Blueberry, and Raisin and Cranberry. Best Buy dates can be seen on the labels of the containers stamped in silver or black. Consumers who have purchased I.M. Healthy SoyNut Butter products or I.M. Craftsman Portable Table Saws: Sears Holding Corp. is recalling Craftsman portable table saws because the table saw’s stand can collapse unexpectedly, posing laceration and impact injury hazards to the operator. The recall involves model number 137.415030 Craftsman brand 10-inch table saws. The table saws sit on a black metal foldable stand. “15 AMP 10-inch table saw,” “Sears Brands Mgt. Corp.” and the model and serial numbers are printed on a silver label on the front. A complete list of serial numbers included in the recall can be found here. Snowshoes: L.L. Bean is recalling snowshoes and snowshoe packages because the plastic material on the snowshoes can weaken and break during use, posing a fall hazard to users. This recall involves the L.L. Bean Adventure Adjustable Snowshoes 25”-30” and L.L. Bean Adventure Adjustable Snowshoe Package 25”-30”. The recalled snowshoes have an aluminum frame with Boa bindings and a deck made from polyethylene with “ADVENTURE ADJ 25-30” printed on the side and “L.L. Bean” printed on the front. They were sold in red (Carbon Chili) and blue (Glacier/Teal) and can be worn with men’s or women’s winter boots. The recalled snowshoe package includes the recalled snowshoes, adjustable snowshoe poles and a bag. Recalled products were sold at L.L. Bean stores nationwide, L.L. Bean catalog and online at www.llbean.com from November 2016 through February 2017. Consumers should immediately stop using the snowshoes and contact L.L. Bean for a full refund. Dietary Supplements: A&H Focal Inc. is voluntarily recalling a variety of dietary supplements because many of these products have been historically tested by the FDA and found to contain PDE-5 Inhibitors (i.e. sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, etc.) which is the active ingredient in an FDA-approved drug for erectile dysfunction (ED) making these tainted dietary supplements unapproved drugs. These undeclared active ingredients poses a threat to consumers because the PDE-5 Inhibitors may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. Consumers with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates. A full list of recalled products can be found here. Recalled products were marketed as dietary supplements for male sexual enhancement. All lots of the listed products sold by A&H Focal Inc. since January 2014 to present are included in this recall. The products were mainly sold through Asian Markets located in NJ and NY. Consumers who have any of the above mentioned products should immediately stop use of the product and properly discard. Biery Cheese Co. Cheeses: Biery Cheese Co. is voluntarily expanding the recall of specialty cheese due to potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes. Deutsch Kase Haus, LLC of Middlebury, IN notified Biery Cheese Co. that a specialty Pepper Marble Jack cheese they supplied to Biery must be recalled due to potential contamination of Listeria monocytogens. Biery Cheese is also recalling other products because they were packaged on the same line as the affected cheese. Products affected include 1.5 pound packages of Monterey Jack Cheese with Jalapeno Peppers; UPC Code 0 93901 77758 4; Sell by Date 07/19/17 and 07/20/17. In addition to recalling the below cheese products, Biery Cheese announced that out of a concern for the health and well-being of Biery customers it has terminated its relationship with Deutsch Kase Haus. The products were distributed between February 7, 2017 and February 10, 2017. These products were packaged at Biery Cheese Company in Louisville, Ohio and distributed to distribution centers located in the States of: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. Customers who have purchased the cheese product listed above from the affected sell by dates or any unreadable date codes are urged not to consume it and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Whole Foods Cheeses: In response to Vulto Creamery’s recall of soft wash- rind raw milk cheeses, Whole Foods Market is voluntarily recalling the products from nine stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine and New York out of an abundance of caution. The cheeses have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Vulto Creamery issued the recall due to testing result from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), which found Ouleout lot # 617 positive for Listeria monocytogenes and New York Department of Agriculture and Markets finding the possible contamination of Ouleout lot #623. The recall includes Vulto Creamery Ouleout and Miranda soft wash-rind raw milk cheeses which were cut and packaged in clear plastic wrap with scale labels beginning with PLU codes 0200305 and 0200306 and “sell by” dates from 12/27/2016 to 03/28/2017. Ouleout products were sold at Whole Foods Market stores: 350 Grasmere Avenue, Fairfield, CT; and 115 Prospect Street, Cambridge, MA. Miranda products were sold at the following Whole Foods Market stores: 170 Great Road, Bedford, MA; 575 Worcester Road, Framingham, MA; 647 Washington Street, Newton, MA; 2 Somerset Street, Portland, ME; 1425 Central Avenue, Albany, NY; 250 7th Ave, New York, NY; and 270 Greenwich Street, New York, NY. Cheese Ravioli Pasta Pick-ups®: Gerber Products Company of Florham Park, New Jersey, is initiating a voluntary recall of Cheese Ravioli Gerber® Pasta Pick-Ups® because the egg allergen is missing from the “Contains” statement. The full ingredient list on the package does list “egg” as an ingredient; however, the “Contains” statement, designed to further alert parents to allergens in the recipe, did not include “egg” as is required. Only consumers who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg are at risk of serious allergic reaction if they consume this product. Cheese Ravioli Gerber® Pasta Pick-Ups® (UPC code: 159070) was distributed nationally through retail stores and ecommerce and is limited to the United States. This voluntary recall impacts all packages of the Cheese Ravioli variety of Gerber® Pasta Pick-Ups®. Hooded Sweatshirts: RDG Global LLC is recalling girls’ hooded sweatshirts because the hooded sweatshirts have a drawstring in the hood, which poses a strangulation hazard to children. Drawstrings can become entangled or caught on playground slides, hand rails, school bus doors or other moving objects, posing a significant strangulation or an entanglement hazard to children. This recall involves RDG Global girls’ olive green-colored hooded sweatshirts with drawstrings inside the lining of the hood. The sweatshirts are polyester and spandex with a sherpa-lined hood. There is an asymmetric zipper on the front of the garment. They were sold in girls’ sizes S (6-7), M (8-10), and L (12). A blue size label with “Freshman 1996” and “Made in China” is located at the center back neck of the sweatshirts. Another label in the neck seam has the words RDG Global LLC and VB740 and 8K80375N. A label in the side seam has the care instructions and RN# 146919. Recalled sweatshirts were sold exclusively at Nordstrom stores nationwide and online at www.Nordstrom.com from November 2016 through January 2017. Bistro Chairs: Pier 1 Imports is recalling Neely and Dahlia Bistro Chairs because the bolts and/or nuts connecting the chair legs to the chair base can loosen and make the chair unstable, posing a fall hazard to consumers. This recall involves Neely and Dahlia bistro chairs sold separately and as part of a set. The chairs are made from powder coated cast aluminum, and were sold in eight colors. The chairs are approximately 33 inches high by 20 inches deep by 18.25 inches wide. A metal Pier 1 Imports brand plate is attached to the support ring on the underside of the bistro table. Only the chairs are included in this recall. Pier 1 Imports stores nationwide and online at www.Pier1.com from January 2013 through July 2016. Herbal and Dietary Supplements: Regeneca Worldwide, a division of VivaCeuticals, Inc. is conducting a nationwide recall of its entire line of herbal and dietary supplement products pursuant to a Consent Decree entered by the federal court for the Central District of California. This recall applies to all products manufactured and sold between June 1, 2011 and February 8, 2017. These products include, but are not limited to RegeneSlim, RegenErect, RegeneArouse, RegeneBlend, RegeneBoost, RegeneBlast, and RegeneFit. ALL LOT #s ARE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. Regeneca products were sold nationwide online using the company’s websites, and through a direct sales force within the United States and Puerto Rico for both consumption and retail sales. Consumers who have purchased Regeneca products subject to this recall are advised to immediately stop using the product and are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a possible exchange. 7-Eleven Muffins: BAK-EZ Bakery Company is recalling 7-Eleven 4.0 oz. Mantecada (Muffin) (SKU 9841) (UPC 05254859241-7) because it may contain undeclared “milk” in the allergen statement. People who have an allergy or severe stativity to Milk they run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. Products subject to recall are labeled with “Date in Store” dates of January 23 to March 3, 2017. The 4.0 oz. Mantecada (muffin) was only sold at 7-Eleven stores in Southern California (San Diego, Bakersfield and Los Angeles) No other store outside this mentioned area was affected. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product received incorrect packaging, which did not reveal the presence of “Milk”. Upon discovering the issue, 7-Eleven immediately removed product from stores. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in packaging revision processes among companies. Please do not consume the product. Instead, return it to any 7-Eleven store for a full refund. Recall Date: 03/09/2017
Marinara Sauce: Nonna Foods is voluntarily recalling 25 ounce jars labeled as Lidia’s Marinara Sauce bearing a Best By Date 06/13/2019, because the product may contain undeclared milk. People who have an allergy to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. The affected jars labeled as Lidia’s Marinara Sauce were distributed to distributors and retail stores located in the following states: New York; New Jersey; Connecticut; Rhode Island; New Hampshire; Massachusetts, Maine; Vermont, Pennsylvania; Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Washington DC, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Montana. The product is packaged in NET WT 25 ounce glass jars with metal lids, and contains the following codes: Best By Date 06/13/2019 (found on the neck of the jar) and UPC code 897712001018 (found on back below Nutrition Facts panel). The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a small percentage of Lidia’s Vodka Sauce jars, which contain milk, was incorrectly labeled with the Lidia’s Marinara Sauce label. Beef Products: King’s Command Foods, LLC. is recalling approximately 26,138 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The meatballs and chicken fried steak products were produced on Oct. 13 and 24, 2016. A complete list of recalled products can be found here. The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. M1515A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to Department of Defense facilities and institutions nationwide. Pork Products: Picone Meat Specialties, LTD is recalling approximately 5,750 pounds of salami products due to misbranding and undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The products contain non-fat dry milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label. The dry fermented salami products were produced on various dates from April 1, 2016 through Jan. 18, 2017. A full list of recalled products can be found here. The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. M4445” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in New York. The problem was discovered by FSIS personnel conducting label review verification activities on March 8, 2017. FSIS personnel discovered the presence of non-fat dry milk, a known allergen, as well as other undeclared non-allergenic ingredients.
