Dr. Weir’s research interests center around applying theoretical cognitive principles to the design, implementation and evaluation of technological interventions to improve the quality of decision-making by providers and the quality of care for patients. She is especially interested in integrative models of cognitive support that enhance the capability of computerized systems to minimize bias, improve information flow, and decrease error. She has extensive experience in the arena of determining information needs, assessing communication interactions and evaluating workflow processes.
Statement of Purpose
Researchers, developers and evaluators of health information technology applications use cognitive task analyses techniques in a variety of settings and for a variety of uses. However, effective analysis of that information can be complex. In this webinar we will review methods to analyze the results of cognitive task analyses of different formats and to link quantitative and qualitative approaches. Currently, methods tend to be applied individually or singly with limited generalizability and few resources are available to researchers to deepen their analysis.

The target audience for this activity is health care professionals and students interested in biomedical and health informatics.
Learning Objectives
After this live activity, the participant should be better able to:
Identify various forms of cognitive task analytic (CTA) methods
Analyze the relationship between types of research questions and the various CTA methods analyses.
Identify the differing methods for linking qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
Apply the principles of research reproducibility and validity to analysis of CTA data.
