The complexity of patient care data magnifies the importance of implementing consistent, critical, structured data elements within electronic patient records.  Interoperability and data sharing are reliant on data standardization; however, health care data management presents unique challenges in an environment of continual change.

This presentation will outline the importance of data standardization, identify critical areas for structured clinical data to measure improvement in healthcare, describe the process for standardization of a medical and dental history form among multiple dental institutions, and discuss challenges and lessons learned.

You should register for this webinar if you have an interest in the importance of data standardization in the patient electronic health record and would like to learn more about opportunities for data standardization and a methodical approach to standardize a medical and dental history used by multiple dental institutions.

Learning Objectives

After viewing this webinar, the participant will be better able to:

Understand the importance of data standardization to support research and outcomes of care.

Discuss opportunities for data standardization in the electronic health record.

Utilize a methodical approach to developing a standardized medical and dental history used by multiple institutions.

Acknowledge lessons learned and challenges for the continued development of standardized approaches for data collection.
