The van Hasselt Centre, Cranleigh
School has been awarded Highly Commended at the Civic Trust Awards 2020.
The judges commented: “This simple quiet building sits harmoniously in its landscape and complements the surrounding historic school architecture. A confident, understated, well considered and well executed project.”
The van Hasselt Centre reinvented disused
squash courts, dating back to the 1970s, into a new shared space that forms the
heart of an expanded academic building at Cranleigh School, an independent
boarding school in Surrey. New accommodation set across two levels, is wrapped
around the existing building to create twenty-four classrooms for the
humanities.
