Hip-hop outfit Thundamentals have returned with their new single “Late Nights”. Premiering the track on community station Blue Mountains 89.1 FM Radio, “Late Nights” is the first release since their 2014 acclaimed album So We Can Remember and can be downloaded or streamed from here.

After cryptically teasing out the world premiere through Shazamble street posters along the East Coast over the last fortnight, DJ Morgs, Tuka, Pon Cho and Jeswon also went old-school, taking out a classified advertisement in the ‘Announcements’ section of their local Blue Mountains Gazette thanking fans for their patience in waiting on new music.
Directing fans to Blue Mountains 89.1FM Radio through their official website, Thundamentals took over the station, treating fans to an hour of greatest hits, culminating with the global premiere of new single “Late Nights”.
It was an apt return to the station who gave the band their first break 12 years ago, setting them on a journey of exponential growth over the past decade built on slick tunes, a strong sense of social conscience and good times, both on stage and in the crowd, Jeswon said of the world premiere, “We’ve always had strong links to the small community we grew up in, and in light of the government’s lack of support for community radio, we wanted to give Radio Blue Mountains a bit of shine by giving them the world premiere of “Late Nights”. They were the first radio station ever to play Thundamentals and in a weird way was actually the motivation for us to start recording music in the first place. Back in the day we recorded our first ever song to enter a competition on the station where the first prize was a spin on air. We didn’t win, but they played our song anyway. It feels like a great place for us to share some new music.”
Since forming in the Blue Mountains region west of Sydney, the hip-hop heroes have marched to the emphatic beat of their own drum machine, building a loyal fan base without ever compromising their paradigm-shifting vision. Their debut album Sleeping On My Style (2009) launched them onto the radar of the wider music community with radio quick to embrace the groundswell.
But it was the aptly titled Foreverlution two years later where the band truly began to show they’re as eager to push boundaries as they are to give fans a memorable night out, thanks to bangers like “Paint The Town Red”. Clearly, this is a band keen to fly, with no thought of falling, as they proved yet again with So We Can Remember, an album that took a long, hard look at the way hip-hop was progressing internationally – then turned it on its head and spun it around like a drunken turntable, giving it that unique Thundas twist. Sprouting massive singles like “Smiles Don’t Lie” “Something I said (feat. Thom Crawford)”, “Quit Your Job” “Got Love feat. Solo” and “Missing You” and chart success – debuting #1 position on Digital, Independent, Australian & Urban ARIA Album Charts and #3 on the ARIA Album Chart, the 2014 release was nominated for a J Award, AIR Award, ARIA Award, FBi SMAC Award and the Australian Music Prize.
Thundamentals are currently in the studio recording new music and preparing for their support slot next month with Macklemore x Ryan Lewis on their National Tour.
