Are you an avid snapper and keen to moove into a career of professional photography? GTM is looking for regional Australia’s most promising photographers to be part of SHOOT THE MOO! The prize will include tickets for you and a friend to GTM and a once in a lifetime opportunity to shoot TWENTY ONE PILOTS direct from the photographer’s pit at your local Groovin the Moo. The lucky winner at each event will also score one on one time with GTM’s official tour photographer to learn some tricks of the trade and a meet and greet with the band. Once again, GTM will be working with students from each of the Communities we visit as part of our Short Internship Program and Work Experience Program for Youth. This program has been an integral part of GTM’s success over the last 12 years and it continues to be one of the strongest elements to our Community Involvement Program where youth are able to gain experience they might not otherwise have access to, skill share, network and develop new friendships whilst experiencing music, art and a large event taking place in their own backyard.

In further national news, Heaps Decent (a dynamic arts organisation working with young people and emerging artists from marginalised and disadvantaged communities – http://www.heapsdecent.com) along with Groovin the Moo and a couple of special guests from the 2016 line up, will be presenting a backstage music workshop on day at all shows across the GTM 2016 tour. If you’re an up and coming producer, beat maker, lyricist or songwriter, we’d love to hear from you! Applications open on Tuesday 1 March via the GTM competitions page and will close Thursday 31 March.
One of the most exciting new additions to the GTM Community Involvement Program in 2016 is the Opportunities Exchange Program. GTM will be working with around 20 different organisations across our six regions to engage local youth from families experiencing hardship or disadvantage and youth who are vulnerable, homeless or at risk of homelessness by extending an invitation to come along to GTM so that they can share in the experience of a large scale music event taking place in their own backyard.

GTM in MAITLAND COMOONITY NEWS (Saturday 23 April 2016)
Groovin the Moo’s flagship event will see a new collective Hyve Mynd, headed by Brendan Ussher (formerly of Steel City Collective) join in displaying their dynamic Street Art installations across the event site. Be sure to look out for their scrim artwork throughout the event and live art demonstrations on the day!
GTM welcomes back Hunter TAFE who will again be participating in our Short Internship Placements in the lead up to the event and the Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee who will be on board again as part of the Work Experience Program for Youth. Hunter TAFE was involved in GTM’s first event in Gloucester 2005 and local youth from the CYEC were key players in the success of the very first Maitland event in 2006! Graduate from TAFE’s Event Management course, Michaela Astorini returns as Event Assistant this year.

GTM in CANBERRA COMOONITY NEWS (Sunday 24 April 2016)
Groovin the Moo and the University of Canberra team up yet again to offer local event management students Short Internship Placements at the event providing opportunities for them to get some hands on experience whilst being mentored by industry professionals. New additions to the event team this year are Tom Brown as event assistant, who for the last three years has worked as an operations assistant with UC Live. Joining Tom is Tamara Murray, a current Event Management student at UCU who will be coming on board to manage the site office at the event. The Woden School will be back to participate in the Work Experience Program for Youth. Their students who have a mild to moderate intellectual disability are excited to assist in a number of different roles across the event site this year.
UC Live will be back with Chalkboard again in 2016, an intimate performance space which invites local musicians to write their name and set time on the board and play on day using the instruments available.
Commit No Nuisance created some of the most eye catching artwork on the tour last year as part of GTM’s Scrim Art Project and will be back again to unleash their creativity on our fence lines.
Joining them on the creative front for a second year will be local professional artist Jess Cochrane, who produced some amazing portraits of our artists on day as part of our Live Art @ GTM. Jess will be back with paint brush in hand and will be inviting patrons to be inspired by the music and create their own masterpiece this year too!
GTM in OAKBANK COMOONITY NEWS (Monday 25 April 2016 – ANZAC Day Public Holiday)
Groovin the Moo is looking forward to working with Mt Barker RSL once again to ensure the spirit of ANZAC is remembered during this weekend.
The talented crew from Adelaide Hills Vocational College will again have their street art skills on display at Oakbank as they make their mark with the GTM Scrim Art Project. Following on from the success of this project, the students will also demonstrate their talent at the event for our patrons as part of this year’s Live Art @ GTM.
The Hut Community Centre in Aldgate will deliver their BBQ to patrons again in 2016. Bernadette Reading, Community Development Manager of The Hut Community Centre, commented on how much the support from the event means to the community.
“The Hut Community Centre is a not-for-profit centre that has provided services to the Adelaide Hills community since 1979. We rely heavily on fundraising to support our community services. Having the opportunity to be a part of Groovin the Moo OAKBANK enables us to raise those much needed funds and also provides a fantastic opportunity for our volunteers to be involved in a great community event for youngsters”.
GTM is thrilled to have local collective Ink Pot Arts once again kicking off the GTM celebrations at the Oakbank Main Gate entry with their stilt walkers and circus performers ensuring everyone feels welcome from the get go! They will be joined at the front gate by the Adelaide Hills Ukulele Group performing songs from all of your favourite artists on this year’s line up!
As mentioned earlier, the Sister Cities Art Project will be heading to Oakbank this year where Local Artists Tania Kunze and Rebecca Prince will be mentoring 12 young artists from the area throughout a series of four workshops to design a poster reflecting the 2016 theme Interstellar. The workshops will be held at Inkpot Arts during April – all of the completed works at The Sister Cities Art Exhibition on display at Groovin the Moo Oakbank. Following the event, the Exhibition will be displayed at Inkpot Arts. Entries will be open on Tuesday February 23 via the competitions page at http://www.gtm.net.au and will close on Sunday March 6.
Music SA, Adelaide Hills Vocational College and Mt Barker High School will all be returning to participate in the 2016 GTM Work Experience Program for Youth. The program is designed to give a taste of practical experience to students studying Events, Arts and Music.

GTM in BENDIGO COMOONITY NEWS (Saturday 30 April 2016)
Students from La Trobe University will be assisting to ensure another successful event by working closely with the Event team as part of the Short Internship Program. Graduate Erin Goodwin will return to gain further knowledge and experience in the music and events industry, managing the site office once again after having excelled in her role last year.
GTM is once again teaming up with FReeZA (Greater City of Bendigo) and Castlemaine College to implement the GTM Work Experience Program for Youth. Now in its sixth year, the program provides opportunities for local youth to experience working on the ground at a large event taking place in their own backyard.
Local crew Hiphopportunities are returning with their spray cans to create another feature piece welcoming the audience and the Artist’s alike at GTM Bendigo. This year their skills will be on show during the event through the Live Art @ GTM display.
The Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst will be greeting patrons with a smile as they provide a fundraising BBQ at Bendigo Train Station on route to GTM and on the way home.

GTM in TOWNSVILLE COMOONITY NEWS (Sunday 1 May 2016 – Long Weekend Monday Public Holiday)
Townsville you wanted it and now it’s back! Yes a long weekend holiday on Monday has been reinstated by Premier of Queensland and Minister for the Arts, Annastacia Palaszczuk.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Groovin the Moo was certain to attract Australian and International tourists to Townsville.
“The return of the Labour Day weekend to May means people can enjoy a long weekend in Townsville including the festival on the Sunday,” Ms Palaszczuk. “That means people can come to Townsville and enjoy what’s on offer as well as go to the festival and even have another day to relax and recharge.”
As mentioned earlier, the Sister Cities Art Project will be returning to Townsville for its second year where local artists Aaron Ashley and Jess Cuddihy will be mentoring 12 young artists from the area throughout a series of four workshops to design a poster reflecting the 2016 theme Interstellar. The workshops will be held at the Umbrella Studio of Contemporary Arts during the month of April and you can check out all of the completed works at The Sister Cities Art Exhibition on display at Groovin the Moo Townsville. The Exhibition will also be featured online in Umbrella Studio’s Young Artist’s Gallery. Event Management Students from James Cook University will again be participating in the Work Integrated Learning Program and GTM’s Short Internship Placements at the Townsville Event. Students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through working with Groovin the Moo’s management team both during the event planning period and on-day at the Event. Local University student John Ma, a successful applicant from last year’s WIL program, has been employed throughout 2015 with local Event Management Company JK Events, an invaluable experience in the development of his career.
Kirwin State High School are also back for another year assisting the team on day as part of the Volunteer Program for Youth, building confidence and developing their skills whilst engaging with industry professionals.
The Youth Network NQ is recruiting a team of young artists to put their creative stamp on the event via the Scrim Art Project and the Live Art @ GTM project.
The Townsville Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club will be cooking up a storm on day to raise funds for their surf club and the Hermit Park AFL Club will also be raising funds through the public car park.
Townsville Mayor, Jenny Hill, commented on the immense benefit Groovin the Moo brings to Townsville,
“Groovin the Moo draws people from right across the North,” Cr Hill said. “Not only does it provide great live entertainment from some of the hottest bands right in our back yard, but it delivers the city a big economic benefit as well. It’s great to be able to stage an event of this size and caliber in Townsville, so music fans don’t need to travel south or interstate to get the live music experience.”
GTM in BUNBURY COMOONITY NEWS (Saturday 7 May 2016)
GTM is honored to work with local sporting teams, arts organisations and talented community groups and businesses in each region. Regarding the importance of community involvement at Groovin the Moo Bunbury, James Legge – Finance Director, Sunset Events, partner promoter with Cattleyard Promotions said,
“GTM brings so many benefits to regional areas around Australia, both financially, culturally and by engaging with community. A strong focus is made by involving the local community by recruiting food vendors, community and sporting groups and local suppliers from the area. A good example of this is the Bunbury Roller Derby team who have been involved in the festival for a few years now. We welcome them back again this year to be our friendly faces looking after patrons at the event’s cloakroom. Groovin the Moo Bunbury and its patrons benefit from getting committed local community members working at the event and the club benefits from the donation made to them from Sunset Events and GTM.”
The success of the initial year of the Short Internship Placements and Work Experience Program for Youth with the likes of Central Institute of Technology, Newtown Moore Girls Academy, Hyperspace and Bunbury Catholic College has meant it’s returning! The student program was well received as Michelle Woosnam, Program Manager, Girls Academy at Newton Moore Senior High School explains.
“With 95% of our girls never having been to a festival it was bound to be an amazing experience for them. Selection criteria was based on attendance, commitment to studies as well as an interest in music. Fourteen girls worked in a variety of sections at last year’s event including the cloakroom, the info booth and wrist banding. Volunteering in community for the first time and witnessing the amount of work behind the scenes to make an event like this happen proved a valuable experience. It was the talk of the school and community for months after and we are looking very forward to be involved again this year.”
