I have a habit of rewriting misleading news headlines.

Most people read headlines, not articles, so news writers and editors know it’s important to communicate their message via headlines.

In many cases, news headlines are deliberately misleading.

In some cases, such as when a story fits a particular political agenda, the headline will specify the race of the victim and the offender. For example:

“White police officer shoots unarmed black man”

We’ve seen this sort of headline a lot during the past year or two, have we not?

In other cases, such as when a story does not fit a particular political agenda, the headline will not specify the race of the victim and the offender. For example:

“Teens arrested in fatal shooting”

When I see headlines like this, I know I’m being misled. I know the words “teen” and “fatal shooting” are often newspeak for “black” and “murder”.

I suggest that whenever you read news stories you begin (mentally) writing what you believe to be more accurate headlines for the stories you read. When you start doing this, you will begin to discover, as I have, that many news headlines can be rewritten so as to communicate the (inconvenient) truths of stories in a simple, direct, and honest fashion.

Below are a few recent examples of misleading headlines.

My rewritten headline, which I wrote after reading/watching the stories, appears first, in bold.

The misleading headlines, written by news writers and editors, with links, appears second:

As you can see, since most people read only headlines, news writers and editors want to make sure readers aren’t told the ugly, inconvenient, politically incorrect truths about news stories via simple, direct, and honest headlines. Instead, they work very hard to conceal the truth from us each and every day.
