Eyram Tawia is the founder of Leti Arts and winner of the 2015 African Entrepreneurship Award for “Most Heart.” Leti Arts is a superhero gaming platform and comics application downloaded on Android systems. Leti Arts superheroes find their inspiration from historical African folklore and African inspired fantasy characters. Eyram is passionate about gaming and hopes that his characters, not only provide entertainment, but also help Africans build a positive image about their history. He says, “Africa has a really strong chance to change our narrative and this is what our Legends are going to do for us bringing our rich culture into the 21st century.”

More Downloads, More Heroes

Since 2015, downloads of Eyram’s app increased from 50,000 to 70,000, all without an aggressive marketing campaign. In the months after winning the Award, his online followers increased from 9,000 to 20,000. After winning the Award in 2015, Eyram launched extensive market tests and a marketing campaign to bring his app to an even broader audience. With funding and mentorship, Eyram hired a team, including a social media expert, a designer, and an author. He now has 100 gamers testing his product.

Eyram has continued his product development, specifically, developing his flagship game, Africa’s Legends – Reawakening. He is finalizing video production on several narratives, as well as continuing to improve his game design.

Pan-African Gaming

Eyram’s business is not only a fan favorite, but the African-centric comics and superhero gaming platform brings West African folklore to life, providing inspiration for youths and adults alike. Leti Arts provides employment for game designers, programmers, and marketing teams as he expands the game and brings it to Africa. About gaming, Eyram says, “It’s a whole new industry that we are building. We believe gaming is going to boost the GDP of most African countries when it is embraced because everyone has a mobile phone.”

All of Africa is now in Eyram’s sites. Eyram’s co-founder is a Kenyan entrepreneur and Eyram sees a jump into East Africa as the next logical step for Leti Arts. In a competitive gaming market, Leti Arts and their unique African approach, continue to carve out a space.
