Bullitt East High School students from the House Augmentum visited the Active Heroes’ Military Family Retreat Center on Saturday, April 15. The house system was established in 2013 at Bullitt East High School and is similar to the ‘homeroom system.’  The Augmentum House focuses on helping others, and they chose to come out and help at the Active Heroes’ Retreat.

The students had several big jobs to tackle during the day. One group of students focused on moving construction materials to appropriate staging areas, and the other group cleared a large portion of one of the trash piles left on the property by the previous owner.

“I am really surprised at how hard the students worked today,” said Ryan DeLong, Retreat Center manager.  “There was a lot of dirty, hands on work to accomplish and the students completed the day without complaint. Many students were even begging to stay longer.”

It was a beautiful day at the retreat and with the efforts of the Bullitt East High School students; the retreat is looking great.

Active Heroes’ next Military Family Retreat Center volunteer day is scheduled for Saturday, April 30. You can register to volunteer and find out more by clicking the ‘Volunteer at Retreat’ button at https://activeheroes.org/military-family-retreat/
