Moving to the suburbs one thing that was prevalent was that there was no shortage of grocery stores to shop at. Seriously in a 15 mile radius of our house we pretty much have everything! Recently we made our first shopping trip to ALDI. I had seen ADLI and heard about it lots of times, but being a creature of habit we had never gone. If you are someone who has never been before I want to share a few tips for shopping at ALDI and what to expect!

Tips For Shopping At ALDI

Tip 1 Bring Bags: Remember to bring reusable bags to ALDI, although if you forget they do have plastic and paper bags available for purchase. I always keep a few reusable bags in my car and they came in very handy! Reusable bags are also helping the environment, so it’s a win for everyone. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to bag the groceries. There is an area to do that or you can bag them at your car which is what we did.

Tip 2 Bring change: At ALDI, you deposit a quarter to use a cart (you get your deposit back at the end!) This helps keep costs down by keeping carts out of the parking lot, and they pass those savings on to you

Tip 3 Be ready to see new brands and familiar brands: I assumed (wrongly) that ALDI would only have their own exclusive brands. NOPE! Though 90% of ALDI products are private label, we found lots of our usual brands that we buy often in the ALDI Finds aisle. ALDI Finds are premium food and household products that are only in stores for a limited time and advertised via the store’s weekly ads on aldi.us. Andrew got his Diet Coke, I got my Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie Mix, and Andrew found his favorite shampoo! They also have a lot of organic and natural ALDI exclusive brands. Looking at the ingredients you will see that these products are pretty similar to things found at other grocery stores.

Other ALDI first time observations:

People were very friendly and helpful

I was pleasantly surprised by how much great produce there was. We eat a lot of fruits and veggies and it was nice to see such an awesome selection.

They have more than JUST groceries. There are toiletry items, gift items, and even toys!

The checkers are SUPER fast! Seriously I blinked and he had scanned everything.

The prices really can’t be beat. We got everything for $50.04! That’s pretty incredible.

The ALDI near us is open 9AM-9PM so not a super early or late night store. Just make sure you check your local ALDI times.

Will we return to ALDI? Absolutely! It’s a great grocery store and now that I know what to expect I will be more prepared for my next visit. I highly encourage you to check out your local ALDI and see all they have to offer.
