Braddock Tutoring Center Learning Specialist

Terms of Appointment:
Term: 9-month appointment at .75 FTE. A funding-contingent
Officer of Administration position subject to annual review and renewal
Start Date: September 16, 2015
Salary range at 1.0 FTE is $44,000-$48,000. This position
reports to the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs.
About the Position:
The Learning Specialist is responsible for developing a
dynamic and professional tutoring center staffed by a team of graduate and
undergraduate tutors dedicated to providing high level tutoring utilizing best
practices and techniques to assist students realize their academic goals.
Braddock Tutoring at the Lundquist College of Business
provides tutoring and mentoring to undergraduate students majoring in
pre-business, business, and accounting; as well as business minors. Braddock Tutoring strives to help
undergraduate students achieve academic success. Braddock Tutoring provides free tutoring in
the pre-business curriculum including: accounting, calculus, economics, and
finance.
Essential Functions:
Program Development and Maintenance:
Oversee and prepare annual grant
proposal to the Braddock Foundation
Develop an ongoing tutor training
model and formulate a training program founded in best practices
Develop and teach workshops and
seminars on a variety of topes related to student learning, including study
skills, time management, and exam preparation
Develop an online tutoring resources center for
students to access on a 24-hour basis
Conduct assessment of services provided by the
center
Continually identify ways to enhance and develop
services
Team Building
Hire, develop, train, and
supervise a team of graduate and undergraduate student tutors
Supervise an Undergraduate Assistant Program
Manager (student) who will assist with the marketing, data collection, and
varies other operational duties and projects as assigned
Develop strong working relationships with
faculty and staff to better align tutoring services with the needs of the
college
Communicate regularly with faculty, staff, and
advisors who refer students to tutoring on an ongoing basis
Collaborate with the college and campus
colleagues to facilitate group tutoring and workshops
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s or PhD in education,
business or related field
Required Qualifications
Strong teaching and/or tutoring record
Excellent written and verbal communication
skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with
faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated experience in project management
and leading a team toward a common goal
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with college-level business
coursework
Experience leading or developing student groups;
preferably student tutors
Demonstrated experience with tutor training and
development
Experience with program assessment
About the Lundquist College of Business:
The Lundquist College of Business (LCB) is one of seven schools housing academic programs on the University of
Oregon campus. The college works cooperatively with other UO Colleges and
Schools to prepare students for a broad range of career paths. There are
approximately 50 full-time faculty members, 45 instructors and adjuncts, 35
administrative positions, 30 staff members, 1200 undergraduate majors, 2,250
pre-business majors, 1200 undergraduate minors, 170 master’s students and 30
doctoral students.
