As part of these initiatives, UConn has hired more than 450 new faculty
at all ranks during the past three years. We are pleased to continue
these investments by inviting applications for faculty positions in the
Department of Digital Media and Design at the rank of Assistant
Professor with a focus on Digital Humanities and expected start date of
8/22/2016. Depending on qualifications, this position will either be
tenure track Assistant Professor or a non-tenure track Assistant
Professor in-residence position (which will be renewable on an annual
basis).
The
selected candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate level classes
as well as support faculty collaborations through the Digital Media
Center centered on the application of digital methods to humanities
teaching, research, and public presentation; public humanities; and
scholarly communication.
The
successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research &
scholarship through extramural funding (in disciplines where
applicable), high quality publications, impact as measured through
citations, performances & exhibits (in disciplines where
applicable), national recognition as through honors and awards. In the
area of teaching, successful candidate will share a deep commitment to
effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels,
development of innovative courses and mentoring of students in research,
outreach and professional development. Successful candidates will also
be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented
groups; demonstrate through their research, teaching, and/or public
engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience;
integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and
research tools; leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed
to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual
interests.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in History, Literature, American Studies, Cultural Studies, or other related humanities discipline
Evidence of formal pedagogical training in teaching and learning for higher education
Demonstrated
experience in development of interdisciplinary intra- and extramural
collaborations with diverse institutions, groups, and communities in
humanities, arts, healthcare, and other sectors
Demonstrated
experience as a versatile writer and editor with publishing industry
experience and evidence of writing for diverse genres and audiences.
Must be skilled in writing/editing:
Grant
proposals and reports; exhibition scripts, labels, and catalogues;
white papers; multimodal communications; podcasts; journal articles; web
content; reports; press releases; marketing materials; etc.
Demonstrated experience in teaching:
Writing-intensive courses
Digital humanities approaches, tools, and topics
Ability to provide a teaching portfolio with teaching statement, syllabi, and evidence of teaching excellence
A
strong research profile of completed and in-progress work in the area
of digital public humanities and another field within the candidate’s
specialty areas
An
active 5-year research and publication agenda in the candidate’s
primary field(s) that provides evidence of a collaborative,
interdisciplinary work plan with attentiveness to learning opportunities
for undergraduate and graduate researchers
Commitment to diversity and to formulating the mission, vision, and values of the Department(s) in which they have worked
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced
degrees or other academic training in public history/public humanities,
museum studies, digital humanities, and marketing communications.
Demonstrated successful leadership in a management role; proven administrative and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated
research project development and management experience with
grant-funded, pro bono, and paid contract efforts that includes:
Initial conceptualization and research
Budget, timeline, and brand image/positioning development
Day-to-day
management of design and development teams comprised of faculty, staff,
students, and freelancers/vendors, including specialists in graphic
design, web and development, videography, writing, etc.
Ability
to review work products and provide insightful, constructive feedback
to foster outcomes consistent with project goals, audience/end-user
needs, and stakeholder expectations is key
Diplomatic polish needed to serve as external client-team interface and negotiate interests of both parties effectively
Development and coordination of launch plans for new projects
Management of reporting activities, including authorship of documents
Use of management and business software, including Basecamp, Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, etc.
Demonstrated
experience working with innovative Omeka and WordPress projects;
grounding in open-source principles; basic HTML and CSS; and ability to
work closely and effectively with programmers, developers and designers.
Proven
marketing research capabilities, including design and implementation of
focus groups, surveys, usability studies, and other assessment tools;
ability to analyze and report data with eye to implications and
recommendations.
Appointment
to a tenure track position is commensurate on a potential to build a
successful record of research and scholarship and other scholarly
endeavors.
Appointment Terms
This
is a full-time, nine (9)-month, appointment. Salary is competitive and
based on qualifications and professional experience. The successful
candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the UConn Storrs
campus with the possibility of travel to Stamford on occasion.
