The School of Government and Public Transformation is Mexico’s most prestigious graduate school of public policy and government. It grants masters and doctoral degrees in government, public policy, law and related disciplines. It is a research institution whose faculty is made up of top level social scientists and practitioners, who have a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching, in order to contribute to the solution of the most important public problems. Its faculty is located in two of Tecnológico de Monterrey’s largest campuses, in Monterrey and in Mexico City.

Job description

The School of Government has three vacant open rank research-professor positions. We welcome candidates in public policy, economics, political science, public administration, sociology, law, education policy or other related fields in the social sciences.
Candidates are expected to strengthen the ability of the School of Government and Public Transformation to influence policy debates in areas such as data science for public services and governance, poverty and social policy, inequality, public finance and budgeting, federalism and local government, democracy and elections, security and justice, education policy, energy, and environmental policy in Mexico and globally. Other specializations are also welcome and will be considered by the Search Committee. The School of Government offers a dynamic academic environment with excellent research facilities.

Candidates must have the ability to conduct high quality, original research and to publish in internationally-recognized peer-reviewed outlets. They should also be committed to teaching and mentoring Masters and PhD students.
Responsibilities include teaching in the graduate programs and undergraduate courses offered by the School of Government, and fulfillment of a research program as presented in the candidate’s application. Teaching may be done exclusively in English, although a solid knowledge of Spanish is strongly encouraged. The teaching load is 4 courses per year, and specific agreements will depend on the candidate’s rank and potential contribution to the School’s mission.

Candidates must have a strong academic background, and proven interest in empirical research. We specifically search for candidates with a strong background in defining theoretical and applied research in one or more of the aforementioned areas. This is an open-rank search, whereby status as tenured, tenure-track, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor will be awarded on the basis of his/her publishing record, teaching experience, and academic status. We expect candidates to hold a Doctoral degree, and may or may not have a current appointment at another institution. Applications from ABD candidates will only be considered if they include a letter from the chair of the committee stating a date for the defense of the doctoral dissertation. The latter should occur at the latest before May 2016.

Compensation is competitive, and includes incentives and support for research activities. Tec de Monterrey will provide legal assistance in case the candidate is a foreign national, for working permit and visa for the candidate and his/her dependents.

● Research statement for the next 3 years (no longer than three pages).
● Teaching philosophy (no more than two pages).
● Curriculum Vitae accompanied by a cover letter.
● Writing sample not exceeding 50 double spaced pages (the candidate should be the first author of the text, preferably a refereed journal article).
● Three letters of recommendation written within the last year. In the case of early career scholars (2012-2014), at least one of these letters should come from the PhD advisor

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to schedule interviews. Interviews will take place in person in Mexico City or Monterrey on a rolling basis until positions are filled. Candidates’ job talk should be about the written sample submitted in the application. The School of Government and Public Transformation will pay/reimburse interviewees for travel expenses.
