Position: Assistant
Professor of Computer Science

The Department of Mathematics and
Computer Science invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computer
Science at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Applicants should be broadly trained in computer science with a passion
for teaching in a liberal arts setting. The successful candidate will be
responsible for teaching the Department's two-semester graphics course sequence
and should be capable and willing to mentor senior research students in
graphics, virtual reality, and other closely related
projects.  Application areas such as high performance computing,
parallel and distributed computing, cloud computing, scientific
visualization, security, and web application development are also of particular
interest, though other specialties will also be considered.

Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Computer
Science is required, with teaching experience beyond typical teaching
apprentice responsibilities preferred.
Candidates must have strong communication skills with a demonstrable
ability to articulate complex topics effectively to undergraduate students at
all levels.  Candidates should also
demonstrate an interest and ability to engage undergraduate students in
research.

Responsibilities:

The teaching load is
three courses per semester.  Along with responsibility for the graphics
courses, the successful candidate should be able to teach any of the courses in
the introductory sequence as well as a variety of upper-division courses based
on the candidate's expertise, and may include offerings for the University’s
requirements in General Education, including First Year Seminars and Junior
Seminars..  All majors in the College of Arts and Sciences complete a
year-long Senior Research Project.  Therefore, engaging in active research
that involves undergraduate students and advising and mentoring senior research
students is expected.  We are also interested in candidates who have
experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated
commitment to improving access to higher education for students from
underrepresented groups.

Candidates should demonstrate a passion
for the highest quality of teaching, combined with the ability to produce
rigorous peer-reviewed academic scholarship. Scholarly activity leading to
publication in peer-reviewed journals and service to the Department, the
College of Arts and Sciences, the University, and the profession are required.
Engagement in multidisciplinary collaborations with other faculty is anticipated.

The Department:

The Department of Mathematics
and Computer Science (http://www2.stetson.edu/mathcs/) offers undergraduate degrees in
Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and collaborates with the
Creative Arts department to offer a Digital Arts major. The major integrates
software engineering into a rigorous, research-oriented undergraduate program.
This combination prepares students for either graduate study in Computer
Science and/or a career in the software development industry.

Arts and Sciences:

Stetson’s College of

the University’s colleges and schools; it includes the humanities, social

picturesque residential community of 25,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona
Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as

Salary:  Salary is
competitive.
