The Department of Anthropology at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2014. The successful candidate for this position will have an outstanding research record, a commitment to excellence in teaching, and will participate in new interdepartmental university initiatives in Musculoskeletal Biology, Human Evolutionary Biology, and Hominin Palaeontology.
Candidates should have a demonstrated research program in the study of human postcranial skeletal morphology from an evolutionary perspective. Their research focus should be within the general area(s) of bone biology, functional mechanobiology, and/or microstructural modeling and maintenance. Particular consideration will be given to individuals who are experienced with different imaging modalities (e.g., confocal microscopy, SEM, CT, micro-CT) and their application to the study of the palaeontological record. Candidates must hold a PhD by the starting date of appointment.
The candidate will compliment current strengths in human and primate evolution, functional morphology, and bone biology in the Department of Anthropology, Department of Anatomical Sciences, and Department of Biomedical Engineering. The candidate will be expected to offer courses in their area of expertise, and to advise graduate students in the Interdepartmental Doctoral Program in Anthropological Sciences.
