Duke Kunshan University seeks applications for a faculty position (rank
open) to teach in the Language and Culture Center starting in fall
2017. The primary duty will be to teach sections of US Academic
Writing, an innovative course in which EFL students hone their ability
to make effective arguments by studying a contemporary issue related
to language, culture and society and then constructing cases in
response. The course helps students build the quality and accuracy of
their written English, their critical thinking skills, and their
ability to present effective cases through written course papers and
oral presentations.
All candidates must have a graduate degree, doctorate preferred, in a
relevant field such as language teaching, composition, or
language/culture and society. Candidates must have demonstrably strong
teaching skills and two or more years of professional teaching
experience. Strong written and spoken English skills are essential.
Preference will be given to candidates who have a research and
publications record, a personal commitment to foreign language
learning, and familiarity with one or more of the following fields:
● Culture and intercultural communication.
● Language and society, especially as related to China and to
English-speaking countries.
● Independent language learning (language learning strategies,
motivation, learner autonomy).
● Culture and media.
