Faculty Position in
Dentistry and Oral Surgery
The Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University
invites applications for a tenure track or clinical track Dentistry and Oral Surgery faculty position
in the Section of Dentistry and Oral Surgery. This expansion of the Section will result in a total of
two dentists with the goals of supporting robust pre-clinical and clinical research programs,
providing excellent dentistry and oral surgery services in the Hospital, and maintaining a strong
teaching and outreach program. The successful candidate will join a current faculty of one board-certified
dentist supported by one experienced, licensed technician, and one Dentistry and Oral
Surgery resident in a comprehensive, state-of-the art teaching and referral hospital. The Cornell
University Hospital for Animals is equipped with extensive therapeutic and diagnostic
equipment including a dedicated dentistry suite, rigid and flexible video-endoscopy, Ho-YAG,
CO2, and diode lasers, flat-panel C-arm for intra-operative imaging, 1.5 tesla MRI, 16-slice CT,
nuclear imaging, intraoperative ultrasound, and a linear accelerator.
Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Board certification in veterinary dentistry (AVDC) is
preferred, but candidates who have recently completed an approved residency and are board eligible in
veterinary dentistry will also be considered. Basic science and translational research experience is
desirable and candidates with advanced degrees are encouraged to apply. Clinical expertise in large animal
dentistry is desirable but not required.
Distribution of effort in the section and department will be determined in accordance with the
service needs, academic priorities, and the candidate’s expertise and academic goals in Dentistry
and Oral Surgery. Clinical teaching and service in the Cornell University Hospital for Animals,
lecture and laboratory instruction of veterinary students and house officers, and independent and
collaborative research expectations are expected consistent with the appointment. Extensive
opportunities for collaborative research exist at the College and University, including Mechanical
Engineering and Bioengineering and Nanotechnology units on the Ithaca campus and the Weill-
Cornell Medical College and new technology campus in New York City.
Clinical duties require flexible working hours that may include evening and weekend
responsibilities. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work
cooperatively with all of the Sections in the Hospital.
Salary, rank and title will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.
